FREE Heart Health Fair & CV Screening

HEALTHY COMMUNITY COLLABORATION
Do you have a healthy heart? Come find out at our heart health fair & cardiovascular screening.

The MetroWest YMCA and the MetroWest Medical Center are collaborating to improve the health of our community members! Join us for a Heart Health Fair & CV Screening done by specialists from the MetroWest Medical Center at the MetroWest YMCA. Learn your numbers for cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose, BMI, receive your Framingham Risk Score and discuss results with medical experts. Also, learn about health and well-being programs the MetroWest YMCA offers to help keep your heart healthy and other preventative care opportunities

What is the Framingham Risk Score?

The Framingham Risk score estimates the 10 year risk of manifesting clinical cardiovascular disease (Heart attacks, stents, heart bypass surgery, stroke). Risk assessment tools such as this are important because they help your physician identify specific risk factors that need to be modified to reduce overall risk. Then strategies can be implemented to modify your risk (should I be on medications for my blood pressure, just how bad is smoking for my health?, etc).

Who it’s for:
Adults ages 35-65

Date, Time & Location:
Wednesday February 27th, 3-7pm at the MetroWest YMCA Framingham Branch.

Cost: This is a FREE screening and consultation.

Sign Up Today: Call or stop by the Member Service Desk to schedule your appointment. If you have been screened in the past 6 months, please bring your numbers and scores with you. If you have more questions, please contact Lisa Mandozzi, Associate Branch Executive at the MetroWest YMCA lmandozzi@metrowestymca.org 508-879-4420 x45

Think about Your Heart Health during American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month and as a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community through healthy living, the METROWEST YMCA urges everyone in the MetroWest community to take steps to prevent chronic diseases, such as heart disease, so they can lead longer, healthier lives.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), heart disease is responsible for one in four deaths each year in the United States. The root causes of many chronic diseases are unhealthy behaviors such as physical inactivity, unhealthy eating and tobacco use. With a presence into more than 10,000 communities across the nation, the Y has the ability to address the root causes of chronic disease at both the individual and community level and improve health and well-being.

The Y offers community-based healthy living and chronic disease prevention initiatives that support people in changing their lifestyles, encourage organizations and communities to adopt behaviors that promote healthy living, and promote the public’s health through advocacy. Here in MetroWest community the METROWEST YMCA encourages heart health through our Health and Well-being classes and programs such as Sports, Swimming, Yoga, Pilates, Group Exercise classes, Water Fitness classes, and Personalized Wellness and Training programs.
