Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.

1. Framingham Public Library and Whole Foods Market Framingham is hosting a free screening of the documentary Food, Inc. tonight at 7 at the main Framingham Library. With news of “Pink Slime” hitting consumers hard, this film is a timely and powerful look at the huge food conglomerates putting profit ahead of consumer health, the environment and independent farmers. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone calls it “an essential, indelible documentary.”  Framingham Patch upload the movie trailer to this article. Refreshments at the screening will be provided by Whole Foods.

2. Three teams from Walsh Middle School participated in the the Power to Hear Engineering Competition at Gillette Stadium Sunday, May. The students constructed a parabolic microphone, adhering to strict guidelines. The teams were coached by parent volunteers Don Chickering and Stephen Thierauf. Chris and Kevin Thierauf, Gilad Waldman, Sajal Akipeddi and Jason Landes comprised Team #1. Graylen Chickering, Ellen Burton, Jillian Shapiro, Joey Wolpert, Varun Akur and Priyanka Roy comprised Team #2. Shristi Varshnay and Anna Parra were team #3.

3. Today is Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 13-19 is National Police Week. The President of the United States has asked that the United States flag be flown at half staff today on Peace Officers Memorial Day. The president also encouraged businesses and home owners to do the same.

4. Framingham Town Meeting - night 10 - is set to resume tonight at 7:30, or when a quorum is reached, at Nevins Hall inside the Memorial Building. 5. Town Meeting will likely start the night with a reconsideration vote. Town Meeting member Herb Chasan of Precinct 4 filed a reconsideration motion (see attached photo) with the Town Clerk's office on Friday of a vote to table Article 41 until the night of the Special Town meeting on Tuesday, May 22. The table motion, made by Joel Winett, passed on Thursday (night 9).
