Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.
1. Sadly, today is the final Framingham Farmer's Market of the season. The market is held on the Framingham Centre Common from noon to 5:30 p.m. Today, there will be free trick or treating at the vendors and a special Tai Chi class at noon at $15 per person. Vendors anticipated are: Copicut Farm, Cookie Pup, EL Silvia Farm, Flats Mentor Farm, Globe Fish, Great Harvest Bread, Hedgie's Hot Stuff, Hanson's Farm, Hillside Beef, La Mariposa Canta, Natick Organic Farm, Nobscot Artisan Cheese, Pasta by Fior Ditalia, Westminster Meat and Zoll Cellars Wine. In the community outreach tent will be the Callahan Senior Center.
2. The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest will honor its 2012 Partners for Youth Bids for Kids Auction & Gala at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel tonight at 6. To be honored are Genzyme, Avidia Bank and senior vice president Chris Duane. Tickets may still be available, click here for more details
3. Whole Foods Market begins a two-part health series today, designed to help you take easy steps to improve your health and well-being. The classes are free of charge but pre-register is requested by calling 508.628.9525 or emailing kate.blaski@wholefoods.com. Tonight from 6-7 p.m., the topic is Healthy Home, Healthy You. Whole Foods' in-store educator will talk about Whole Foods Market Eco-Scale™ rating system for household cleaning products and which commonly used ingredients are not allowed in the four tiers of the Eco-Scale™ system. The store's healthy eating specialist will discuss the four pillars of Healthy Eating – whole foods, plant-strong™, nutrient dense and healthy fats. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 15 from 6-7.
4. Transition Framingham will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge with a presentation and discussion on how to proceed in Framingham to create more sustainability, equity and resilience. Transition Framingham needs ideas to help Framingham thrive now and in the future. They are looking to pull together the creativity and energy of those from all walks of life to move toward a more resilient future, with this kick-off meeting leading to a larger Framingham event in January.
5. Lisa Eck, a world literature professor at Framingham State University will discuss her book I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills tonight at 7 at the main Framingham Library. The book is part memoir, part ethnography, part travelogue, part colonial history. This free event is a collaboration between the Framingham Public Library and Framingham State University. Refreshments will be served and books will be available for purchase.
