Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.
1. Soar 55 is hosting Connecting Through the Global and Local Volunteer Experience at the Main Framingham Library at 7 tonight. Award-winning photographer and global volunteer Dick Simon will discuss how he makes a a difference through travel and photography. SOAR 55 (Service Opportunities After Reaching 55) is a program of Newton Community Service Center and part of a national network of volunteer agencies mobilizing adults aged 55 and over to contribute their skills and experience to help strengthen and expand the capacity of local community service organizations in Newton, Framingham and MetroWest. They have an office in Framingham.
2. Selectmen are meeting tonight at 7 in the Memorial Building.
3. Have a child in school? Join the PTO and volunteer a couple of hours. Hemenway Elementary PTO is meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. Wilson Elementary PTO is meeting tonight at 7.
4. Try a Spirit Groove class at Diosa Dance Yoga Health. Spirit Grooves combines gentle Hatha yoga, meditative movement, movement therapy, tribal dance, expressive dance, free dance and interactive community building. The class, $10, is for children and adults of all fitness levels.
5. Barbieri Elementary School is hosting a fundraiser at Kelly's Roast Beef from 4-8 p.m. Bring in the attached flyer and 15% of the proceeds will go to the school.
