The 5K Race starts at 9 a.m. Runners and walkers can register up until 8:30 a.m. at Cushing Memorial Park on Saturday. Same day registration is $30.

Those already registered can pick up their registration numbers at Pepperoncini's between 1 and 3 p.m. today, May 18.

Sponsored by the Framingham Police Association, the 5K course, which starts and ends at Cushing Memorial Park, benefits the Framingham Police Association and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).

The Association is a non-profit organization that provided high school scholarships and funds wellness programs for the Framingham Police.

PanCAN is a nationwide nonprofit organization for pancreatic cancer patients and their families. They also do research on pancreatic cancer.

The first race held in June 2007, initially raised money for for the police department's wellness program. But when one of the police department's officers had a family member diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the Framingham Police Association chose to donate a majority of the proceeds to PanCAN, said Framingham Police Lt. Blaise Tersoni.

There is a $100 cash prize for the top male and female finished. Trophies are awarded to the top male and female finisher in each categories.

Categories are 10 and under, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 65+. Trophies are also awarded to the top male and female law enforcement finishers.

The winner will finish in about 15 minutes.
