Press release from AAA Southern New England:
Gas prices in Massachusetts are up for the fourth straight week, this time by just a penny, according to a survey by AAA Southern New England, which has an office in Framingham.
AAA’s Aug. 1 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.759 per gallon, up one cent from a week ago.
The current price is five cents above the national average for self serve unleaded of $3.70.
A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $2.66.
The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 40 cents, from a low of $3.59 to a high of $3.99. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week: Be gentle on the pedals. One of the easiest and most effective ways to conserve fuel is to change driving styles. Instead of making quick starts and sudden stops, go easy on both pedals. The U.S. Department of Energy reports aggressive driving can lower a car’s fuel economy by up to 33 percent.
