Avery Dennison to Move to Westborough

Avery Dennison, a company with deep roots in Framingham, will move to Westborough this summer.

Avery-Dennison, a company with deep roots in Framingham, will leave the community and move to Westborough this summer, says a company spokesperson.

Avery Dennison's Retail Branding and Information Solutions (RBIS) business is currently headquartered at 7 Bishop St. in Framingham. The company will move its about 100 employees to Westborough in July or early August, said Jeanne Romano, Director Global Corporate Communications for RBIS.

"It is very difficult to leave Framingham after so many years," said Romano. "We wanted to stay in town but could not find office space here that would fit our needs."

"It the end of an era," said Framingham Town Manager Bob Halpin. "I'm disappointed."

The Dennison Manufacturing Company was founded in Framingham in 1844.

In 1990, it merged with Avery International Corporation and the company's name became Avery Dennison.

A Fortune 500 company with sales of $6 billion in 2011, Avery Dennison is based in Pasadena, California with more than 30,000 employees in more than 60 countries.

Avery Dennison RBIS is a global leader in apparel and footwear industry solutions, and is a $1.5 billion division of Avery Dennison, said Romano.

Avery Dennison RBIS provides intelligent, creative and sustainable solutions to elevate brands and accelerate performance from design to retail store floor.

Avery Dennison's RBIS division employs 20,000 in 50 countries, but only about 100 employees here in Framingham.

I don't find this shocking. I have been here 19 years and its seems Framingham is more designed for the unwanted characters like child sex offenders, drug addicts, abusers of all types. I'm ready to leave myself.

We have lived in town for 46 years and find Framingham a great place to live. Why did President Bill Clinton visit Framingham? Let's look on the bright side: We have good schools, many cultures here, a new Bowditch Field, a new library in Nobscot, Loring Arena, Cushing Park, and a lively Town Meeting.

It seems everyone is leaving! Framingham is changing drastically. I bought my house 14 years ago & I'm ready to leave myself! I am thinking about making my house a rental property as soon as my daughter graduates FHS

Westborough has been the recipient of several Framingham based companies during the past 3 years. The reasons are multiple. What efforts has the Town Officials to develop a meaningful plan to attract new employers and retain those whose needs are unmet. This plan would include retailers. Bob Katz

First BJ's moved its offices and now Dennison to Westborough, Love to know how that community recruits businesses and what Framingham does NOT do.
