UPDATED: Bomb Squad at Police Station/Memorial Building for Report of a Grenade

Framingham Police asked the Memorial Building be evacuated after a report of a man bringing a grenade to the police station.

Framingham Police said the owners of The Railroad Six Sports Grill brought to the police station, but left in their vehicle in the parking lot outside a hand grenade that they found in the basement of their building. (The Railroad Six is on Waverly Street where the former Happy Swallow operated.)

The Massachusetts State Police bomb squad removed the grenade at 10:25 p.m. 

It was x-rayed on the scene last night and the explosives had been removed from the grenade, said Framingham Police Lt. Ron Brandolini.

Framingham Police asked those inside the Memorial Building to be evacuated around 9:50 p.m. Thursday after a a man brought a grenade to the police station. Bomb squad was called in to investigate. Framingham Planning Board was meeting at the time inside the Memorial Building.

Massachusetts State Police arrived on the scene just before 10 p.m.

At 10:25 p.m. Union Avenue going southbound was re-opened as state police cleared the device. Northbound was opened shortly after that.
