Chimney Fire Reported on Winter Park Road
Framingham Fire responded to a report of a chimney fire at Winter Park Road.
Framingham Fire responded to a report of a chimney fire at 57 Winter Park Road just about 7:30 Saturday night. The road is off Winter Street.

I find this very ironic seeing how we (family and I) had shoveled out a fire hydrant on Edgewater Dr and the town in the final passing buried the hydrant with 5 to 6 feet of snow. Call DPW and as usual got the run around. A plowed driver for the town was flagged down and said he couldn't be bother because he had a job to do. He came back a couple minutes later and he couldn't find the hydrant told us" don't lose your mind I'll be back" still waiting. Also waiting for DPW supervisor to come by again still waiting. So I guess it's good the fire was on Winter Park rd. and not Edgewater dr or Bexley st because the house would have burnt to the ground. Thank you Framingham DPW for being concerned oh yeah also for filling my yard with all the neighborhood snow.

The hydrants are supposed to be marked with high flags for the winter for just this reason. Framingham seems to forget this. My neighbor had to request them last year; and of course we don't have them this year either. That is one area where the town has fallen down this storm season and it is an important one. I hope it is rectified soon.

The hydrant locations are marked by green marking on the telephone poles. The number below the green marking is the distance from the pole and the direction is indicated by the tab of green below the marking. The location of the hydrant would be easy to find.
If you drive to any of the neighboring towns and look at their road conditions in comparison to ours I think you would agree that Framingham does a better job.

Joe, I absolutely agree that Framingham does a better job clearing streets. However, when asking residents to clear hydrants that are completely burried and in my neighborhood were 10 feet from the plowed roadway; the flags are essential. We can't be guessing or even getting close enough to poles. Additionally, we have underground wiring and just street lights so reading the tabs isn't a remotely viable solution for us.

I'm a neighbor from where the fire occured and I had actually cleared the hydrant earlier in the day. When I saw the fire fighters looking for the hydrant, I pointed it out to them and mentioned I had dug it out. They were very appreciative and, thankfully, they did not require it. I do agree there should be better markers for hydrants as even though it was cleared from snow, they still didn't know where it was until I pointed it out to them. That could be precious time wasted which is needed to attend to the emergency at hand.
