Connolly Chooses 1-year; Plans to Withdraw From 3-year

Heather Connolly will file paperwork with the Framingham Town Clerk on Monday to withdraw from the 3-year School Committee Race; she will run for the 1-year seat vacated by Rick Finlay.

"On Monday, I will be withdrawing my nomination papers for the 3-year seat," Connolly told Framingham Patch Friday night.

"I've decided to run for the 1-year seat," she said. The 1-year School Committee seat became open in December when Rick Finlay resigned.

"I have the utmost respect for Beverly (Hugo) and Andy (Limeri). They are prepared and know their information. I may not always agree with their decisions, but I know we are all trying to achieve the same thing - the best education for every and all students in Framingham," said Connolly.

Hugo and Limeri will now be running unopposed for the two 3-year seats on the School Committee.

The town election is April 3.

Connolly, however, will be involved in a race for School Committee.

Connolly and Don Taggart are both running for the one-year seat.

Taggart has not returned a couple of calls to Framingham Patch.

If Connolly had not withdrawn from one of the two School Committee races by Feb. 2 at 5 p.m., she would have been pulled from the ballot. Massachusetts Law prohibits a candidate to run for two seats on the same board.

Connolly had pulled nomination papers for the 3-year seat in November, before Finlay resigned. Then, she pulled papers for the one-year seat.

Connolly ran unsuccessfully for School Committee in 2011, against incumbents Michael Bower and David Miles. She finished 99 votes behind Miles, who finished behind Bower.
