Construction Scheduled for Edgell Road ... Again
Just when you thought it was safe to drive on Edgell Road without construction, comes word the Town of Framingham plans to include the popular roadway in its 2013 construction projects.
Like a horror film with way too many sequels, Edgell Road will see construction again this summer.
Framingham Chief Engineer Bill Sedewitz told Selectmen last week Edgell Road, from Central Street to Oak Street will be part of the town's 2013 construction projects.
The project will go out to bid either this month or next. The work could start as early as May, with a heightened schedule after school ends in June.
"We want to do the majority of the work when the buses are not working," said Sedewitz. He estimated the project could be completed by September.
Edgell has been dealing with construction for a couple of years, as sewer improvements were made in the neighborhood. Now, Framingham Department of Public Works plans to restore the road, add sidewalks and plant trees, to complete the Edgell Road project.
Complete detours are not planned, but there may be one lane of alternating traffic near Central Street, said Sedewitz.
Originally, six trees were removed when construction began on Edgell Road. Sedewitz told Selectmen two dozen trees will be planted by the time the project is completed.
Selectman Jason Smith insisted the town's tree warden be in charge of re-planting the trees and not a consultant.

Are there any plans to improve the Edgell Road / Central Street intersection? Make it safer to take a left onto Edgell from Central?

Will accommodations be made for bike lanes? Sidewalks are nice, but do not serve bike riders well.

I hope there are plans to re-line the roadway near the Town Common to help improve traffic flow. There should be two lanes heading south past the Common, to allow a left turn lane onto Auburn St (without holding up traffic heading downtown or to Rt 9). Also, aesthetically the wide shoulder northbound looks terrible, with those poles sticking out of the ground with reflectors. I hope those are only temporary.

Seriously!???!!! How many summers has Edgell be under construction by the Common?
Why can't the town and the contractors get their act together.? We didn't have a lot of snow. Couldn't the work have been completed in 2012? We had to drag it out for another year?

ENOUGH!!! This better be the last time I see a construction vehicle on this road in my lifetime! I don't want to see NSTAR or some other company there digging up the road in a year. Everyone better have all their ducks in a row and complete everything now!!
