Earth Day Festival

Yesterday's Earth Day Festival was a huge success thanks to the Sierra Club and Framingham resident Donna Kramer Merritt.

The centerpiece of yesterday's Earth Day events in Framingham was the Festival on the Framingham Centre Common, sponsored by the Sierra Club.

But the biggest thank-you for the community-wide event should go to Donna Kramer Merritt, who helped coordinate the events held all over town into one giant Earth day celebration.

The Festival yesterday was a great family-friendly event featuring arts & crafts for children, face painting, environmental information and ideas for saving energy, local artisans, and music performed by two local bands.

The festival, itself, was also environmentally-friendly.  It was a ‘zero-waste’ event, using recycling and composting to manage discarded materials.

Also yesterday, a Green Up-Day was held in the morning, where residents and families removed trash from the town's public spaces.

Both the electronics recycling  at and the Styrofoam recycling at events filled more than a truck load yesterday, said organizers.

The police station also had a great turnout for its give back of outdated or unwanted prescription medicines.
