Flyers Cheerleaders To Compete for State Title

The Framingham High School varsity cheerleaders are one of a dozen teams in Massachusetts competing for the state title; the winner will compete in the nationals.

The cheerleaders are one of 12 Division 1 teams who will compete for the state title and the right to go to nationals on Sunday, March 11 at Lowell High School. The competition begins at 2 p.m.

Coached by Sue Pereira, the tri-captains for the 2011-12 varsity squad are Brittany Hicks, Danielle Lagman and Sammie Banker.  

Other members of the team are Tashali Little, Erin Curtin, Sophie Dicks, Lindsay Cercone, Illisa Chekedel, Hayley Grove, Shay McKinney, Paulina Strine, Julianna Tizzano, Hannah Labonte, Ariel Walovitch, Brianna Castoldi, Savannah Fair, Sarah Murphy, Katie Hagerty, Alexandra Gibbons, Nicole O’Connor, Caroline Scacca, Uche Nna, Fiona O’Leary, Shayna Morgida and Carol Rotella.

National Cheerleading Week ended yesterday, March 7. Linda Lundy founded National Cheerleading Week with a vision to bring awareness of, and acknowledge the hard work and dedication of today's cheer athletes.  Every year, the first week in March is designated as National Cheerleading Week, and recognizes cheerleading athletes around the world. The goal is to build a more positive image of cheerleading by engaging in group activities, community service and fundraising projects.
