Framingham Family Opens Take-Out Mexican Restaurant
Mexico City Taquería opened last Wednesday on Route 135.
As a teenager Mayra Ramirez learned all about how to make delicious fresh, homemade cuisine growing up in Mexico City from her mama.
Since coming to the United States 13 years ago, Mayra and her husband Francisco have both been working in the food industry.
But last Wednesday, the Framingham couple opened Mexico City Taquería, a take-out restaurant specializing in serving tacos, burritos, and other Mexican dishes. Now, they are the owners.
"We serve food just like I cook at home," said Mayra Ramirez. "Everything is fresh. Nothing is frozen."
Ramirez's husband is one of the chef's at the Taquería, which specializes in tacos. The menu has nine types of tacos - including veggie, chorizo and fresh fish, along with the traditional "carnitas, asada and pollo" (pork, steak and chicken). The price $1.95 each.
One of her husband's best creations is the Al Pastor Taco, which is a soft taco filled with roasted marinated pork and grilled pineapple. You can also get an Al Pastor quesadilla, burrito or torta.
Ramirez said her favorite on the menu is the burritos, all priced at $5.95. There are more than a half dozen varieties of burritos on the menu, too.
The menu also includes quesadillas, tamales, tostadas, tortas, fajitas and enchiladas and some speciality items including carne asada and a chilango plate.
The family-run business is open seven days a week - Mondays through Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mexico City Taquería is located at 1 West Union Avenue (Route 135) in Ashland. In is in the K plaza - diagonally across the street from the Papa Gino's/CVS plaza. Phone number is 508-881-3500.
There is counter seating for 2-3 people and window seating for about 4-5 people maximum. The restaurant is really set up more for take-out.
The couple, who have lived in Framingham for a decade, have two children, one who attends Brophy Elementary School.
