Who would randomly plant material on his laptop, He was a creep a long time ago when we attended his office with our kids, we did'nt attend for too long as his behavior was very strange

I agree. I took my kids there ONCE and never went back. He wouldn't let me be in the room with my young kids so that was the end of that! Creepy!

I also thought the guy was a creep and brought my own child just once.... however, that doesn't make him guilty. In our disgust at the very concept of child pornography, and need to protect our kids, its natural to assume guilt until proven otherwise. To be fair, though, I think we need to wait and see how the charges play out.

Couple of points here. I have a computer services company that is very often called upon to clean malware and viruses off PC's. First, legally, if I found data that would violate the law (i.e. child pornography) then I am obligated to notify police. It's nothing personal, and I don't go looking for it, but if I come across it in the course of work, I'm required to report it. Second, while it is possible the material was planted there or placed there without his knowledge due to a virus, my experience is that it rarely happens that way. Forensic investigation almost always proves that the user willingly visited sites that host the illegal material. However, it is important to note that there IS material out there that is not truly child pornography as it is filmed with individuals that are over 18. The content however make it looks like it is. We don't know the details of the charges, but it wouldn't be surprising that the police would arrest first and ask questions later based on what is found in a cursory investigation.

I had a BAD experience as well! He was very SLEEZY.

Went to him for a tooth extraction for my 5yr old (sent by our regular dentist b/c he had the gas)
He tried to convince me to have her Hospitalized and Sedated and that she needed lots of other work done that he could do at the same time. (he said all this after meeting her for 2 minutes)
I KNEW she didn't need the work done b/c she had just been seen by our dentist!!

He tried to make me feel like I was a bad parent for NOT going with his suggestions!! I said he could use the gas to pull her tooth and NOTHING else.
We never went back!

Went with my gut and I'm soooooo Happy I did!!!

I don't doubt the allegations nor do I doubt that unfortunately there will be people who come out and say something happened to their child.

On the one hand I fully believe in innocent until proven guilty. On the other hand, there is rarely smoke without fire. I've always been ok with my kids' treatment there for the last 6 or so years ... But shan't be taking them back until he's either cleared or convicted.

I think people should not presume he's guilty with out some proof. We have gone to him for over ten years. He has never been anything but kind, funny and professional with my son or myself. He has been a wonderful dentist and taken great care of my son. If there were ever any issues my son would of said something.

My son went to Dr. Mel for 15 years or so. He was a great dentist. I don't believe any of this and will offer my services on his defense team if need be.

My son and daughter (17 and 15) are both patients of Dr. Mel. We have been going to him for 12+ years and have nothing but good things to say about him. I don't believe the allegations and my children have both said they want to continue seeing him as their dentist. I too would be willing to offer my services on his defense team.

So, You "defenders" will allow your children to be treated by a man who even "allegedly" downloaded and distributed commercially traded child pornography images!!??

There was an "extensive forensic investigation". He turned his computer over in March and they had enough to arrest him. The chances of him "having no idea how it got there" and having no involvement are tiny!

Please educate yourselves on molesters and victims!! A victim saying they still want to see their abuser is not uncommon!! They can also be too embarrassed to speak up and say something happened to them!

Even if he never touched a child in his practice and it's strictly limited to looking at photos online, this man should not be working with children PERIOD!!

This came as a shock to me. But thinking in the long-view, IF he gets out of jail with enough years to continue his practice (assuming no revocation of license), he'll have to become an adult dentist. Which means his business in Framingham, unless they find a new pediatric dentist to anchor them, will likely be closed and the employees will be out of a job.

What fool would bring in a computer to check for viruses if he knew child porn was on it! NONE! Andby the way, many pediatric dentists request to see patients without parents in the room so parents don't interject their fears or discomfort with dental work to their child and allow the dentist and child to establish rapport. I don't believe these charges!

I too brought my child to him at age 4 for his first dental appointment. This "dentist" would not allow me to be present in the exam room for his first appointment to "count his teeth." My son cried and begged me not to take him back there when his next appointment was due. You bet I listened to my son and my parental instincts that told me this was an inappropriate practice. I worked in mental health for years, and for years I wanted to report him to the authorities because I knew something was very wrong with him, but I had no proof. These allegations are very chilling to me now. And it kills me that he preys on disabled children whom he says he says he specializes in treating. My sad feeling is that there will be more allegations to come...

I went to the wee dental program for children under 3, he put all of the children's head in his lap/crotch area as he demonstrated how to properly brush your child's teeth. This made me uncomfortable and he did as well. May daughter didnt want to lay her head in his lap and I didnt force her too. I would never leave my child unattended with a doctor unless she was old enough to ask me to leave. I think the defenders are defending because they really want to believe the nonsesnse they are saying, it makes it easier than to think for years you left your child alone in a room with a man who likes to look at naked children. Whether the pics of the children were of age or not the fact that you would want to look at actual or implied child porn makes no difference to me. If it turns out to be true I am sorry for all the people who were violated by this deviant.

He use to be my dentist years ago and I never liked him he was weird and I was very suspicious about some of his behavior. He's definitely guilty!

The guys a creep and I'm sure more will come out of this story. I hope they check his patient charges and insurance claims too while they're looking for more child porn.

Guilty? who knows just yet. I do believe that esp. when children are involved it is better to be safe than sorry. At this point,until either cleared or found guilty,there should be no seeing or around children for this guy. All of these comments about being made to feel uncomfortable by the children and parents over YEARS makes me wonder why this guys practice wasn't investigated long ago or at the least damaged by so many claims of "weirdness".??????

He was my dentist when I was a child. This scares me beyond belief.

not to worrie people this sick person who my own children hated after 2 visits..was and is being investigated by outside sources other then the state of MA..one canadian based organization..has taken high note..word is they dont follow the rules..they go on gut feelings not court room drama..

all kids were corraled to his practice..by recommendations from doctors..when you get there you see Bugs Bunny and you feel safe..but when you hear Dr.Mell scream at your child for no reason and never bring them back...then yes ..something went on at his practice..but my child wouldnt respond??...you would think a breath mint would be a requirment of dentistry

No question in my mind this guy is a fraud and uses unnecessary surgery for personal gain..that investigation will be next..he also wanted to pull 5 teeth from my child..later that week ..another dentist said WHY???..DR TAM
