Framingham Rebels Win the Duquette Academy Tournament
The Rebels competed in four tournaments this summer; as they placed third in the Connecticut Bombers Invite and second place at the Wooden Bat Classic in Cape Cod.
The 14U AAU Framingham Rebels went up against AAU teams that draw their top players from multiple towns at last weekend’s Dan Duquette Summer Heat tournament in Hinsdale.
The Rebels, an AAU travel team formed in 2011 consisting of players exclusively from Framingham, emerged champions after going 5-0 against competition from NY and MA.
Key pitching by Franky Damata, Sammy Phipps, AJ Tunno, Nick Cronin, Zach MacGregor and Nick Benoit fronted the strong defense of Jamie Brigham, Christian Seariac, Nate Duda, Griffin McGann and Evan Hermanson.
Two walk off hits in 2 come-from-behind games by AJ Tunno and Nate Duda, along with a complete game tossed by Nick Benoit, propelled the Rebels through the semi-finals where they defeated the Levittown Cardinals on Saturday.
Consistent offense from Nick Benoit, Nick Cronin, Sammy Phipps and Griffin McGann led to the Championship win on Sunday against the South Shore Rox.

Last weekend’s championship tournament at Duquette ended a very successful summer run for the Rebels as they compiled a winning record of 13-5-1 overall.
Members of the team include AJ Tunno, Jamie Brigham, Nate Duda, Zach MacGregor, Griffin McGann, Frank Damata, Nick Benoit, Nick Cronin, Sam Phipps, Evan Hermanson, Christian Seariac, Noah Gelman.
They were coached by Kevin McGann, Tony Tunno and Mike Phipps, with assistant coaches Butch Damata and Jeff Brigham.
