Residents are asked to close windows and doors and to not play on the playground at Wilson Elementary School, while General Chemical tests cleaning techniques.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection agency (MassDEP) authorized the air quality pilot test to take place between 8 p.m. and midnight on Tuesday, June 26.
MassDEP is advising residents near the General Chemical Company facility to keep windows and doors closed. There are several apartment complexes in that neighborhood.
MassDEP said it will shut down the test, if air quality monitors show that pollution levels approach health-based levels. Monitors and containers will be in place to catch dust and volatile organic compounds.
MassDEP said General Chemical must submit a test report on the test by July 13.
General Chemical announced this spring it plans to close.
Residents will conerns may contact Albert Nardone at MassDEP at 617-292-5580.

This is so scary. After years and years of being told this playground was safe. Just frightening... it's summer - shut your windows, everybody!!! Hopefully the MassDEP is visiting those apartment complexes to let people know what's going on. How far a distance away is "safe" enough... 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1 mile? What if it's windy? I'll say some prayers.

You folks who live there chose to live there. Suck it up....Well actually you might not want o suck it up. Do what they say close you windows and make plans to leave. What can I say.
This wouldn't of happened on the North side of town. The Brazilians and those living over there are considered dispensable according to the town.
The town allowed development to go on in that area for years there when some knew the past history. They even re-built a school there go figure!
How does it feel living in an area that is Framingham's Love Canal.
Sorry for the bad news but I think you already knew it but just can't face the reality of it.
Maybe some of you think you're going to sue the town and make a big windfall.
Maybe so, but not for a long time. If your even still around to talk about it.
Time to pack up and leave.

Jim: Perhaps you should take you own advice ... you chose to live here on the south side..
All I have seen you do is complain, complain, complain all weekend on comments on Patch. Maybe you need to go outside and enjoy the sun and step away from the computer!

Sue...This is serious stuff.....The people living there are now complaining but it's a little late.
Where I live used to be a dumping ground for all the trash ash. But I don't see any chemical plumes. But then again it could be just as bad here.
Why is it people can't open their minds up to the reality of things in the town.
Whether or not I bring attention to the issues the problems are not going to disappear. In regards to taking my own advice don't think I'm not looking into alternatives. Between the town going third word, being taxed to death because of it, or ingesting poisonous chemicals, you'd be a fool not to start looking into what the next step would be.
At least all the complaining we do is to let people know what's going on, so now they can't say they never knew about it.
As it is now the people living over near General Chemical seem to be playing dumb. Playing dumb is not going to make the problem go away. Me moving is not going to make the problem go away.

Susan....If it wasn't for us complaining your hits on the Patch website would be half what they are.
You should be thanking us. The more hits the better it is for you.
Just think if this was a porn site how good you'd be doing.

Jim: ---- you can comment once or 10,000 times in a given month, but you only count as 1 "unique visitor" (a standard way of measuring online traffic) to the Framingham Patch community news site.
Remember, it is okay to take a vacation from the computer once in a while. ;-)

There are people (not all of whom are General Chemical area residents), trying to make a difference in that neighborhood. Ethan Mascoop and the BOH have done more than any other board in the past, to get GCC out of that site. FACES has attended every hearing and many other meetings trying to bring the most attention to this impossible situation. The residents of the Leland Street area also have some very strong allies in the State House. State Reps Walsh and Sannicandro, as well as Senator Spilka, have spoken up to the DEP, for a tougher stance regarding GCC and holding them accountable.
The residents of that area have EVERY right and obligation to speak up. Progress is being made. We could get it done a whole lot faster if we had more outcry from the ENTIRE town. FACES is in it for the long haul....any productive, positive help would be appreciated. http://www.facebook.com/FACESFramingham

Can't say I haven't been saying anything! I was on top of this years ago and no one listened. I even talked about it in my cable show. Now they are too late for the dance. Extreme measures have to be done, and the people there just have to deal with it or move out.
The BOH knew about the problem many years ago and only got involved when the Brazilians started to complain. Where were they 20-30 yrs ago before the Brazilians even got here? I guess Americans complaining wasn't good enough.
You're a dollar short and a day late and it isn't because guys like me are not complaining. The damage has been done the only thing left is the cleanup.

I say thank you to the Brazilians if they were the ones to light the fire I say take a lesson from them. The past is the past and this is now. Let's get this job done and get it done right. Stand up and be counted and if you do not have anything good or worthwhile to say then don't say anything!
