Jack's Abby Brewing Expanding

And you can taste some of the Framingham craft brewery's lagers at tonight's Taste of MetroWest at the Sheraton Framingham.

Jack's Abby Brewing has signed a lease to expand. The Framingham-based business plan to lease 6,000 square feet of space this summer.

The extra space will help expand the brewery’s barrel-aging program and allow for installation of a grain silo, said a press release

In 2012, Jack's Abby:
* Brewed approximately 2,500 barrels brewed
* Won medals at the Great American Beer Festival and the Great International Beer Festival,
* Introduced various positively reviewed seasonal and specialty lagers,
* Hired five employees,
* Expanded production capacity with new tanks and a bottling line.

“We had a great 2012 and we’re all looking forward to an even better 2013,” said Jack Hendler, owner and chief brewer at Jack’s Abby. "We expect more growth, new capacity, and more innovative lagers."

Tonight, March 12 attendees of the 3rd Annual Taste of MetroWest can sample lagers and other brews by Jack's Abby. Tickets will be available at the door at $30. There are almost 50 vendors scheduled at the Sheraton Framingham from 5 to 8 p.m. Last year, more than 1,000 people attended the event sponsored by the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce.

"We'll soon be introducing ... an entire 40 bbl batch of a bourbon barrel-aged version in March. Look out for a new Double IPL in the early spring," said Jack Hendler, owner and chief brewer at Jack’s Abby in a press release.

Current season brews include:

  • Framinghammer Baltic Porter: Big, bold, and black. This unusual lager style has many similarities to Imperial Stouts. A lengthy conditioning period creates a silky smooth chocolatey mouth feel enhanced by the use of oats and brown sugar. Noticeable sweetness gets balanced by roasted malt and hop bitterness. At 10% alcohol by volume, this beer is sure to keep you warm on a cold winter night.
  • Private Rye Bière de Garde: Brewed in the French farmhouse style as a warm fermented lager. The grist contains 30% Rye Malt local sourced and malted in MA as well as Belgian candy sugar. We leave this beer slightly hazy to accentuate the mild fruity yeasty character. Copper in color, a spicy Rye flavor emerges in a dry yet malty finish.

The name, Jack’s Abby Brewing, pays homage to co-founder Jack Hendler’s wife, Abby, while evoking the tradition of monastic groups in Europe who create handcrafted beers in their abbeys. The brothers are inspired by the tradition of craft brewing using quality local ingredients, mindful labor and great recipes to create delicious, authentic beer.

Jack's Abby is a proud member of the Massachusetts Brewers Guild and the Brewers Association.
