Keefe Wrestling Team Having Strong Season

Keefe Tech/Ashland Wrestling Team is a cooperative team of 17 members from Keefe Regional Technical School and 5 members from Ashland High.

With a record of 6-2 and several team members placing first in recent tournaments, The /Ashland wrestling team is hopeful its season
will prove to be their most successful.

“I think our team’s success so far can be attributed to the commitment of its members. We went 4-7 two seasons ago, then 8-6 last year, and we’re off to a great start this year,” said Keefe Tech/Ashland Wrestling Coach Donald Marini, now in his third year as the team’s Head Coach.

The Keefe Tech/Ashland Wrestling Team is a cooperative team of 17 members from and 5 members from Ashland High.

Keefe Tech team members are Enes Braga, Nick Bagley, Sam Comfort, Renan De Almeida, Brian Franco, Andrew Franquiz, Carlos Guzman, Jake Gillert, Josh Hebb, Brandon In, Andrew Jacobs, Dale McDonald, Ryan Melanson, Brandon Martin, Phillip Prue, Cassius Shearer, and Gerry Torres. Ashland High School team members are Andrew Capistran, Tanner Bradley, Adam Dolaher, Zac Egnitz and Paul Thorne.

“Each year, coach Marini has built on the success of the year before,” said Keefe Tech Athletic Director Chris Kane in a press release. “The program is very structured, highly competitive and disciplined, and has come a long way in a short time."

The team placed first overall at the Northbridge Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 14, with Capistran and Franco coming in as first place finishers and Braga coming in as a second place finisher.

In addition to placing at the Northbridge Invitational, Capistran, Braga, and Franco were each top place finishers at the Milford, Framingham, and Cohasset Tournaments.

The team also recently went 3 and 0 in a Quad against Cathedral, Monty Tech, and Northbridge High.

“It’s been great to see the team grow in size and also in our commitment,” said Braga, a four-year member of the team and a senior in the information technology program.

Franco, a junior in the automotive technology program, is happy to have one more year on the team ahead of him. “I’m looking forward to how much further we can go and how much more success we can achieve,” he said.

Although the school is a member of the Colonial Athletic League, the Keefe Tech
wrestling team competes in the Tri-Valley League.


Keefe Regional Technical School is comprised of students from Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton and Natick.
