Lady Flyers Soccer, Field Hockey Defeated by Needham

Both the girls soccer and field hockey teams lost to Needham High Thursday.

Framingham travelled to Needham yesterday and both the girls soccer team and the field hockey team came home without a win. The girls soccer team is still searching for its first win of the season.

“She had a pretty good angle, it was just outside the 18 [yard mark] and she decided to curl it in and I don’t know if she was actually shooting or not, but she was going for the far post, [and] she struck it hard,” said Needham’s assistant coach Charlie Mahoney.

Needham had an opportunity to extend their slim lead in the second half, but both referees called off Kayla Steeves free shot in Framingham’s zone due to obstruction in the box.

“It was a good game to watch. It was a good game to be involved in,” said Framingham’s head coach Stacey Freda. “I felt like both teams played the ball down [and] were real technical. We saw a lot of combination plays and I think it’s just a nicer game to see rather than just the kick-ball, so I thought we were on the losing end of it, but I thought we battled and they had a nice goal [and it] probably wasn’t able to be saved and aside from that I thought we contained what I felt to be a very skilled Needham team.”

Field Hockey: Needham 6 – Framingham 3

Needham’s Hannah Wolfe registered three goals in the first half, while Elizabeth Thornton pitched in two goals to lead the Rockets to a victory.

Framingham’s Kaitlyn Wilder led the Flyers with two goals, one in each half.
