LETTER: Fetherston Campaign Questions Sannicandro's Ties to Deval Patrick
Committee to Elect Jon Fetherston: "What is Sannicandro worried about? Simply that Jon Fetherston would make a great state representative and the people of Ashland and Framingham know it."
Press Release from Committee to Elect Jon Fetherston:
While it seems State Rep. Tom Sannicandro (Ashland-D), who represents Framingham and Ashland, doesn’t have time to debate the issues with his opponent, Jon Fetherston (a Republican), he does have time to attend a fundraiser tonight, Oct. 16 in Ashland.
Sannicandro has turned down several invitations from local groups representing
taxpayers and small business to debate. The panelists and moderators for these debates were chosen to provide a balanced view so there is no legitimate reason to refuse.
The keynote guest at Sannicandro's Ashland fundraiser is none other than our Governor Deval Patrick. This is notable, in that Governor Patrick hasn’t attended these events for other local candidates.
Sannicandro has plenty of money plus significant support from the State
Democratic Party and unions. Why does he want even more money from his supporters?
Maybe he has a bad habit of spending other people’s money. He seems to be pulling out all the stops to win against what his campaign has termed “an aggressive Republican challenger." He now has to work very hard and he isn’t used to it. This is his first real challenge.
We have a drug mixing lab in Framingham that has sickened and killed innocent people across the country and a mismanaged state lab that has caused the release of hundreds of criminals onto our streets to continue their careers. The Governor is also supporting one of the few state representatives, who voted against the EBT Card Reform bill. Does the Governor really support all of this?
What is Sannicandro worried about? Simply that Jon Fetherston would make a great state representative and the people of Ashland and Framingham know it.

This press release is comical on many fronts. John Fetherston trying to tie Rep. Sannicandro to the meningitis scare? Hardly, as the owners of the Framingham lab are Republican supporters who donated heavily to Scott Brown and Mitt Romney's campaigns.
By "local interest groups", I believe Mr. Fetherston means to say "Republican Town Committee Members". The Framingham Taxpayer Association is one good example. This was an organization that started out as a non-biased fiscally conservative group that has been taken over and is now fully run by members of the Framingham Republican Town Committee. Debates and campaing discussions should be non-partisan, which these are cleary not.
"He seems to be pulling out all the stops to win". I certainly would hope so. Few candidates win elections by simply not trying. Mr. Fetherston seems to also have plenty of money, enough to produce a video commercial for airplay, and plenty enough for lots of giant lawn signs. Why has he not stopped taking donations? Hypocritical?
I certainly don't hold it against Mr. Fetherston that he has very strong ties to Scott Brown and Mitt Romney and the other Republican leaders of the state, why should he hold that same thing against Rep. Sannicandro and his relationship to our Governor?

(Sorry, had to break this into two posts to fit comments)
Rep. Sannicandro is an effective leader, who has done a great amount of good work at the State House, including playing an intregral part of helping Framingam catch up on state aid. I will be attending Town Meeting in Framingham tonight, helping to decide where the extra money that our current delegation (including Rep. Sannicandro) has brought back home to help us through tough financial times. I hope that Mr. Fetherston shows up too, so he can see first hand what the hard work of our current legislators has done to ease the burden that we have so painfully felt over the past several years.
I am proud to support Rep. Sannicandro. He is an effective leader who has done great work for his hometown of Framingham.

How many Framingham Town Meetings has Tom Sannicandro attended in the last 8 years?

If I had to guess I would say that I have seen Rep. Sannicandro five or six times at Framingham Town Meeting, although I took 3 years off during that time, so I am not sure about a total. I think I did have a John Fetherston sighting for part of one meeting this past Spring, which is honestly the only time I have seen him in Framingham. I'm sure he has been in town, just not anywhere that I have seen him.

Mr Berman, I totally agree. Isn't it a bit odd that the only voice for Fetherston seems to be Mr Terry Hendrix and our local developer community?

I applaud Mr. Berman's comments. I too am proud to support Rep. Sannicandro for all the work he has done for his constituents and his two communities, and for all of Massachusetts.
I have further comments on this subject to for your consideration that I will submit as a separate letter to the editor.

Bob, I know little about either of these candidates. That's my fault. I have asked Mr. Sannicandro to explain his point as to how bringing more traffic into downtown Framingham is a good thing. But I havent heard back. I am sure he is busy, but as a supporter, could you explain his position?

Dave, please go to Jon Fetherston's website www.jonfetherston.net or give him a call at 508 816-6674. It is his personal cell phone. It will also be the same phone number to contact him when he is your next State Rep.

Hi Dave,
Mr Fetherston's website won't be very helpful in this regard.
Recently, Lt Gov Tim Murray and folks like Tom Sannicandro announced that Framingham was awarded about $8 Million through MassDOT to help ease traffic by improving things like the intersection of 126 and 135 in downtown Framingham. Framingham was also awarded about $400,000 to study whether raising the railroad tracks and/or creating an underpass would help alleviate bottlenecks when trains come through.
These kinds of awards take years. Funding traffic improvements at the local level can be some of the toughest to get from the state and Federal government, especially for suburban communities.
I am glad we have Tom Sannicandro working for us!

Dave, As a supporter I would never speak for any candidate on their own positions, nor would I likely agree 100% on many issues (although I tend to vote Democrat I am a very independent minded person, fairly fiscally conservative, fairly socially liberal). I would recommend calling the numbers that I quickly found on his campaign website (google search brought me to http://tomworksforus.com/)
Campaign office: 508-293-1866 / Statehouse: 617-722-2013

Also Dave, I am curious to know what response you get from both of the candidates on that question. Please post if you can.

Aside from placing his signs in Framingham precincts which are not in the district for which he is running and attending a breakfast featuring surrogates of Warren & Brown, I have never seen Mr. Fetherston in Framingham. How does he hope to garner support against Mr. Sammicandro, who has championed both Ashland and Framingham in the State Legislature? Mr. Fetherston, have you ever even visited the precincts of 13,14,15,16,17, or 18 in South Framingham?

I know Jon Fetherston has visited all the Framingham precincts because I was with him on several of these occasions. Did you miss the standout at Rt 126 and Rt. 135 a couple of weeks ago?

Last night, I certainly didn't miss Fetherston and his supporters' standout in a quiet neighborhood in Ashland. I attended Representative Sannicandro's event and believe it was in poor taste for the Fetherston campaign to park several trucks near private homes on the street of the event, stand in the flatbeds, and wave Brown/Fetherston signs at Sannicandro supporters as they passed by. What was your intent?

Thank you for keeping us informed, Joan! I think what you are saying is that you don't feel like you know Jon Fetherston. I feel the very same way!

Bob, Thanks for the response. I would love to call, but I doubt I'd get to speak to either one of these candidates. I have no familiarity with the Republican candidate, and although I am a registered Republican, I refuse to just check every name with an R beside it. I should add that I wouldnt expect either candidate to take time out of a campaign to speak with me. I just thought maybe you might have info on something I missed.

If the groups asking for a debate are biased, why hasn't the Sannicandro campaign found a mutual party to moderate the debate?....like Audrey Hall? Anyone know?

There is a 7th Middlesex House District debate sponsored by the Framingham Coalition/Community Connections on Wednesday, October 24, 6:30-8:30 PM, at The Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Framingham. This organization has been sponsoring such non-partisan debates for many years and provide an opportunity to meet the candidates and hear their views on the issues. Framingham and Ashland cable TV coverage is planned, as well.

Norma, thank you for letting us all know! It is clear Fetherston's campaign wants the angriest, most biased crowd possible.
Tom Sannicandro is intelligent and thoughtful. I have no doubt it will be an interesting debate.

We could just go back and forth with the comments from the Republican Town Committee, and the Democratic Town Committee posters here till the cows come home...but the fact of the matter is debates were propsoed, and repeatedly declined or ignored...the last one was between the Ashland Democratic and Republican Town Commitees... and I would not call those, or Rick Holmes from the MWDN, who was to serve as a panelist on one of the debates. too republican..and implying that the Ashland Business Association fits in that mold is truly comical. The taxpayers and the business owners of Ashland and Framingham are the brick and mortar that sustain the community, and I believe that all voters should be able to hear where the candidates stand on the issues...and saying Jon Fetherston is never around Framingham, is ridiculous. Ironically that is the number 1 complaint about the incumbent that Jon hears when door knocking in Framingham.

Here is a video from Tom Sannicandro's recent fundraiser with Governor Deval Patrick. As some of you may know, the Governor had gone to see the kids at Ashland Middle School earlier in the day before visiting with Sannicandro supporters, many of whom have lived in this areas for decades.
All in all, it seemed like a nice event.
