LETTER: Teacher Effectiveness Over Seniority is The Right Decision
Stand for Children Massachusetts celebrates signing of legislation that puts teacher performance first in all public schools.
Massachusetts made state history when the Governor signed into law legislation to put teacher effectiveness first. This legislation, which ensures that performance comes before seniority in teacher staffing decisions, is a win for teachers, parents, children, and all of Massachusetts.
Stand for Children Massachusetts has long sought to recognize the important work that teachers do and ensure that those teaching in our public school classrooms are there based on the quality of their work, not simply because they have been there the longest. Now, we have the tools to ensure that every classroom in our state is led by a great teacher.
By enacting this law, Governor (Deval) Patrick and the Massachusetts State Legislature have once again demonstrated their strong commitment to fulfill the promise to every parent that their child will get the education they deserve.
We thank the Governor and state legislature for enacting this critically important law, which ensures that every child in our state has equal access to a quality education, and with that, a bright and successful future.

This should apply for the higher ups in the school departments also. Lots of school officials seem to think they are above the law in criticism and are protected by the people with the same mentality that keep them in office.
A list of complaints against any school employee/official should be made public by any citizen of any town and whether it was addressed in a correct manner if at all.
That should keep everyone on their toes.
I have witnessed first hand the corruption, conspiracy and incompetence of school officials, and school committees, and it is amazing how much they can get away with.

It takes a lot to get a teacher fired these days.
Why is this the case....UNIONS. They protect good and sad to say....bad teachers. It's too bad the bad teachers give the good teachers a bad name.
For the record....a good amount of the children sex abuse, going on in the country schools is by teachers.

Extrapolating data from the latter, she estimated roughly 290,000 students experienced some sort of physical sexual abuse by a school employee from a single decade—1991-2000. That compares with about five decades of cases of abusive priests.
Such figures led her to contend "the physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests".

You are really sick, and about as low as they come. Abusive teachers are no more representative of teachers than abusive carpet salesmen are of carpet salesmen. Unions protect underpaid people from the exploitation of teachers that was the norm in this country until well into the 20th century. Some day a fact is going to jump up and bite you, and you're going to become a human being, with the grace to admit you don't know anything about anything you talk about.
