LETTER: Town Meeting Member Suggests Moving Halloween to Saturday

Glazer: "In the spirit of practicality, I suggest the Town of Framingham 'move Halloween' ... to avoid the bad weather and possible "Sandy clean-up."

In the spirit of practicality, I suggest the Town of Framingham "move Halloween" to Saturday Nov. 3 (which has a very promising weather forecast) to avoid the bad weather and possible "Sandy clean-up."

The town can keep the kids safe and out of the rain, reduce the stress of those dealing with post Sandy issues and allow for our children to arrive back at school on Monday more rested.

How can we make this happen?

Who is empowered to make a decision like this? The Town Manager? The Board of Selectmen?

I don't think we should rush to make a very complicated change without first seeing what happens here. We may or may not have a great deal of damage and it could be very different in every neighborhood.

Plus, I don't know its possible to ensure the message of this type change gets to everyone in town and therefore you may still have people trick or treating on Wed if they didn't "get the message"

So you would rather have your child trick or treating in the rain? I think moving it to Saturday would be very practical considering Saturdays weather last year they moved Halloween in several towns and it worked out just fine i would rather take my child out in a safe environment as opposed to not knowing what Wednesday is going to be like and to wait until last minute would be kind of stupid if they made a decision now they Would have plenty of time to let everybody know I think it's a great idea personally

Makes sense to me. Chances are we are still going to have downed power lines in inconvenient places, and I'm not banking on a speedy response by NSTAR.

They could always do a reverse 911 call to all Framingham residents if they decide to reschedule Halloween. Hopefully, the kids can go on the actual date, weather permitting.

I like the idea. But last year in the Oaks neighborhood there were live power lines down, and the suggestion of postponing Halloween to a later date was scoffed at.

Personally, I love the idea. Safety should be the priority.

+1 of Eric's suggestion to move to Saturday but it may be too late at this point to get the word out. Probably should have made this decision last week.
