The owner of a Waltham Mexican restaurant plans to open a second location in Framingham on Route 9.

The owner of a Waltham Mexican restaurant plans to open a second location in Framingham on Route 9.

Carlos Olmedo, whose family owns and operates Taqueria Mexico in Waltham, said he plans to open a second location at 250 Worcester Rd.

The restaurant will occupy the former Top Shelf Restaurant location and the space currently occupied by PC Healthstop, which will be moving across to the street to 255 Worcester Rd., said Marlene Aron of Metrowest Commercial Real Estate. Aron and Fara Khedmaty of Metro Business Brokers, represented the owner of the building, who owns PC Healthstop.

Olmedo told Framingham Patch "We have been in business about 25 years. It all started with my grandparents when they came to the states, looking for a better life. When they opened Taqueria Mexico they needed all the help they could get. They even had me helping them doing salsa and other small chores around the restaurant at about (age) 5 or 6 years old. So since I can remember I always have been part of it. So you can say it's a family business."

"My grandparents later passed it down to my parents, which now run the one in Waltham. Over the years I have learned all the traits in the restaurant business, especially how to make good mole sauce," said Olmedo. "Now with the help of my parents, we decided to open in Framingham."

Olmedo said they chose Framingham because it is a "great city" that needed a "little spice." Olmedo said his restaurant will offer the spice with "delicious salsas, enchiladas, quesadillas, guacamole" and more authentic Mexican dishes.

He said the "great service and great prices" will keep the customers coming back.

"Now that we are going to have the whole building," Olmedo said he thinks the restaurant will be able to seat 75 customers.

Olmedo said he will be applying for a "liquor license to serve the customers great margaritas!"

"If everything goes smoothly with the renovation, we want to open by mid-April," Olmedo said.
