Pedestrian Killed on Route 9 was FSU Senior
The woman who was struck and killed on Route 9 Friday night attended Framingham State.
A 21-year-old woman is dead after being struck by two cars on Route 9 Friday night.
Colleen Kelly, 21, was a senior and English major at Framingham State University, and lived in Pierce Hall on campus.
Kelly, who is from Melrose, died while trying to cross from Maynard Road to College Street, and made it halfway when she was struck in the eastbound lane, thrown into the westbound lane, where she was hit again
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Colleen’s family, friends and fellow students,” President Timothy J. Flanagan said in a press release. “This tragic loss is felt by the entire Framingham State community. I know we will all be relying on each other for support during this difficult time.”
The University has arranged the necessary counseling services for our students and employees. Framingham State counselors will be on campus throughout the weekend to help students cope with this sad loss.
“I urge students, faculty, and staff in need of support to visit our counseling center and speak with someone,” Flanagan said.
The accident investigation is being handled by Framingham Police and the State Police reconstruction team, said the statement release from the University.

Their is no College Street.
We live near campus and when my husband left to pick up my son at a friends around 10:30, he called and said, someone must have been killed because they are re-routing traffic on route 9, and closed a section.
My thoughts and prayers are with Colleens family and friends at this most devastating time.
What a day 12/14/12 was. My thoughts and prayers to all those affected by the senseless tragedy in Connecticut.
Please hug your children close…...

something has to be done. This keeps happening in our town. Perhaps another walkway over Route 9 like the one to Framingham Centre? (1 block from the accident scene). Either way, as a town and a state this is getting out of hand. 28 people run down along that stretch of Rte 9 in the past 2 years alone (source: Boston Globe last week said 27, this poor gal makes 28)

Didn't anyone go to the scene and talk to the students who witnesses the crash???? SADLY TOOO MANY students cross at that opening by the fire station instead of walking a few more feet to the foot bridge!!!! Did the drivers STOP?? That poor girl!!
I was expecting more reporting from my local Patch.

The PATCH editor was off at the time of the accident and another writer was filling in. Perhaps that is why coverage was not as thorough as you expected.
Nevertheless, this is a very sad situation.

I was on rt 9 and rerouted down I believe Maynard rd and just as we made the right onto Maynard we could see the accident scene and her body under the sheet, it was very traumatizing to see a body laying in the middle of the road. The students most definitely need more crossing options or more stores etc on the eastbound side so the students don't have to cross rt 9 at 10:00 at night to grab a snack or coffee. Very traumatizing to see, I can only imagine how the students at the scene as it unfolded must be feeling

Mary, I'm sure the drivers stopped. Her body was thrown into the other lane and hit by a second car. Those drivers will have to live with the horror the rest of their lives. I was driving Eastbound right after they shut rte 9. It was scary. We thought at first someone got hit by a train.

And for the record I see people of all ages jaywalking there daily. Why are there no traffic cameras? Why are people too lazy to use the footbridge. Why do people cross right before Walgreens instead of waiting? People with baby carriages too. It sickens me each time I see parents do that.

Rte 9 is basically a highway, never meant to be run cross, that is why there are foot bridges and crosswalks. Over the years the businesses have moved from where the original foot bridge is towards Temple St. They have lights at the fire station, why not create a cross walk there to accommodate the college students? It is more realistic than expecting people to walk out of there way, especially in winter.

Framingham is not a pedestrian nor bicycle friendly town. You need a car to safely get around, the bigger the better, forget about going green here. There is a large opening between rt 9 & Maynard that leads pedestrians to think is a cross-able path. Drivers on that stretch of rt 9 drive too fast and there is absolutely no speed enforcement what so ever. Very poor town planning, it can only get worse until safe walk & bicycle paths are factored into the town's transportation equation.
