why do they have that picture up? this JUST happened

Why is there a photo of a Natick cruiser during the daytime when this happened at night n Framingham? Hearing it may be a Framingham State student...

So many jaywalkers getting hurt on rte 9. The Globe just reported 27 pedestrians injured in the past 2 years alone (just at Temple St.) Every day I see people jaywalking across 6 lanes total on rte 9 and it's very scary while driving at night. :(

That is where it happened.

We were on our way home on Route 9 at 10 o'clock and saw several police cars lights flashing in that area. Traffric was diverted to Salem End Rd and backed up. It looked like a very serious accident.So sad that someone was killed.

@Mary we all just got an alert in our dorm to meet in room 1839. Told Dean will be stopping by. Really a sad day - the tragedy in Connecticut and now this on campus. Everyone is so upset!!!

Heard that several other students witnessed her being struck ... awful!

I live on Temple Street and drive that intersection every day. It is a terrible intersection with cars racing through red lights and is no place for pedestrians. So saddened to see another accident and the loss of a life.

These areas, on Temple street itself and the route 9 near there are incredibly dangerous for pedestrians - it takes a much braver soul then me to dare walking anywhere near there. Everyone is going at least 50 on 9, and sometimes going onto the shoulders for turns - and I see people walking at night where it's hard to see anyone on those same shoulders that cars going 50 speed onto with hardly checking. Temple street is even worse, the lanes are very narrow (no shoulders), filled with curves, and overgrown with trees to begin with, traffic flows maybe 40 mph, and people are still trying to walk or run on these narrow roads. Someone driving along on the narrow lane once reaching a turn would have no way of seeing the pedestrian until it's too late - it is an accident waiting to happen.

People crossing in the area of the Mobil/Fire are even more of a problem on RT9. It's a dark area and the lights from the oncoming traffic make it nearly impossible to see students crossing. I have had 3 near misses in the last year alone. Unfortunately, because of the fire station and RR tracks, it's not possible to put a barrier up at that area and our cash-strapped state won't put a pedestrian bridge in either. Maybe better lighting and a light-controlled crossing area is the answer, that still will cost $$$. How much is a human life really worth? So tragic!

Did the driver stop? TOO many pedestrians have been struck in Framingham his year.

I've seen too many students try to cross Route 9 there, at the Fire Station opening. There is a walkway over Route 9 further down, but it must be inconvenient for them. Isn't your life worth the inconvenience?!?

Lesson learned. She died because she didn't use the crossover near the centre. Why did she think she could cross route night at night? What was so important across the street? Could it be that the minimart sells beer and wine?

Since Pat Fan seemed to have been there when it happened can you tell me if it looked like she tried doing the whole walk in one go? I can't understand why she would have continued to walk across on the Eastbound side with a car really close to her.

I just hope she wasn't texting while she was walking across

Does anyone know how this happened? Was she walking alone at night or with other students? What did the police have to say about this accident?

jr14 you are incredibly disrepectful and casual about a tragic situation that has upset many at our school. Colleen was a beautiful, kind and bright individual who always had a smile for everyone. To hear you reduce her passing to a craving for beer is shameful and disgusting. Regardless of her reasons, another life has been lost on route9 and the town needs to put a crossing light there. Many of the students have vowed to use the footbridge, but im sure many wont because its further away. Again colleen was an amazing and promising young woman and we will not stand for disrespect.

This is a horrible tragedy that has happened and my thoughts go out to all of Colleen's friends and families. But the truth is that she shouldn't have been crossing there. If students want to cross Rte 9 they should do so at the pedestrian bridge. The town should not have to use police resources (an absolutely horrible suggestion) or install crossing lights that will just cause more traffic on Rte 9 or install another bridge a few hundred feet away. Are the people suggesting these things anyone who actually pays taxes? Also, think about the drivers of those vehicles. It is extremely difficult to see at night in this area and I'm sure they did all that they could. Now they have to live the rest of their lives knowing that they killed someone, be it accidentally.
