UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck on New York Ave; Taken Via Helicopter to Boston Hospital

A Genzyme employee was struck by a van at 68 New York Ave. while in the crosswalk, according to witnesses.

 

Joseph Mallory, 30, a Genzyme employee was struck on New York Ave. around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday

New York Avenue was closed for a couple of hours by Framingham Police.

Framingham Fire Department requested a Medflight helicopter. Scanner reports had it anding on Route 9 to taken the pedestrian to a Boston hospital.

Scanner reports identified the pedestrian as a man, in his 30s, with femur injury and difficulty breathing.

Traffic was a mess in that area all morning, as Framingham Police and the Massachusetts State Police reconstruction team were investigating.

Witness reports had the pedestrian struck by a van, while he was in the crosswalk.

The driver of the van was identified as Andre Desouza of Marlborough.

Framingham Police are on the scene and Massachusetts State Police reconstruction team has been requested to the scene.

Late Tuesday night, a couple of Genzyme employees tweeted and texted Framingham Patch to say Mallory was improving.

There is a mid-block crossing there, which drivers need to be aware of. Pedestrians are supposed to push the button to activate the flashing sign, but I have never seen that happen over my hundreds of trips down that road. Hope he is okay.

I was driving by around 9:30 and they still had the road closed. There are a couple of crosswalks along that way, hopefully people will take the time to glance on either side before driving through in the future, particularly during start/stop work times.

Someone who knows the man struck, tweeted Framingham Patch, to say he is doing better.
