UPDATED: Police: Framingham Man Hog-Tied, Threw and Killed His Dog

A Framingham man was arrested over the weekend and charged with animal cruelty.

A Framingham man was arrested Friday night and charged with animal cruelty after he killed his dog, said police.

Douglas A. Coelho, 27, of 126 Beaver St. was to be arraigned in court today, Jan. 7.

There also is an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer on him, said Framingham Police Lt. Ron Brandolini.

The dog, a black Terrier-type, weighing just 7.5 pounds was found dead in a dumpster, by Coelho's roommate. He then called police.

Coelho's roommate told police he saw Coelho throw the dog against a wall, said Brandolini.

Coehlo told police the dog had urinated on his bed.

Upset, Coelho told police he threw the dog and it hit a wall. The dog had a large lump on its head and was bleeding after hitting the wall. Coelho told police he gave the dog some Motrin.

Not wanting the dog to get on his bed again, Coelho told police he hog-tied the dog so he couldn't jump on anything, said Brandolini.

The dog seemed to be acting strangely, so Coelho gave the dog more medication and put him in a drawer overnight. The next morning, the dog was dead, explained Brandolini.

Police said Coelho had the dog for about a year, but the dog had never been to a veterinarian. It is unknown if the dog was licensed.

I'm anxious to hear what this upstanding citizens immigration status is.

Hi Ryan. Obviously, since he has an ICE hold, he would have no status. This makes it clear that all undocumented people hate animals. Or all people who torture animals are undocumented? Which logic do you prefer?

When can we start having an honest discussion about uncivilized people living within our town?

Clearly this guy is here doing the work that Americans won't do.

It is so hard to judge people. I'm so upset with this man. But the person who found the dead dog and called the police was a illegal immigrant , who had guts taking the risk to be deported to make justice.

Another pitiful, person who should NEVER own an animal. These "punks" have no idea about animal cruelty! Im have a decal on my car that says: "When it come to Pit Bulls, the best is often the two-legged animal at the other end of the leash." HOW TRUE!!!

Stfu and y'all are taking this toooooo flipping far because he's an immigrant. Sure, he killed an innocent animal, a puppy but you guys seriously want to kill him for it? Disgrace. And @ Julie Towers how about who shut the hell up because I know him, he's sick and has mental issues and I'll miss him if he was gone. Take a step back and think about what you guys are saying. I had the priviledge to meet the puppy (when alive) andhe was so happy and full of life, he obviously did not deserve this. But Douglas, my cousin, has problems and just because he's an immigrant does not give you the right to talk shit about him. And no he is not a piece of shit, he's actually very kind when he wants. And there are plenty of Americans who kill animals everyday, and yes he is doing he aamericans work cause y'all don't get off your lazy asses and do it yourselves. R. I. P Roughie the dog.

Lucilla: Thanks for posting. Feel free to post anytime but a majority of our readers speak English. Please post in English. Rough translation from below as I speak no Portuguese and some Spanish:
"Sorry for the puppy. I have one and love the other. However, if the child has even a mental diversion, feel sorry for him, because he must be suffering too, with what he did. That the Holy Spirit console your heart. and the angels of God go before him in resolving this case.

First I am not plural there is no S at the end of my name. Second I would feel the same way if he was an American or here legally like everyone should be, heck I would feel the same way if it was someone I knew or if it was my family member. I don't care who it is, they do this they need to pay. I have no tolerance for anyone I don't care who you are for people who kill innocent helpless animals, they don't even deserve to breath the same air as us. He contributes nothing but danger to society. I don't feel like waiting around for him to kill a human before the justice system decides to do something about this. . I don't give a crap if he has mental problems, he can go back to where he came from and get help. Would you still feel the same if he killed a child, your child maybe ? Because that is where he is heading next. And it will be on your conscience because you stick up for this MONSTER. If your such a good friend and knew he has these problems why didn't you help him ? Also you are just as guilty for this innocent puppies death because you knew how he was and did nothing to help this puppy. You shouldn't of allowed him to have a pet. I'm sure Jeffery Dahlmer was kind when he wanted to be too. Something needs to be done NOW before its too late. All the signs are there this stuff can't be ignored anymore

Carol, I guess I don't understand your comment. I think the anger here is not because he is an immigrant, but rather that he tortured and killed an innocent dog. The very fact that he has mental issues means he should not have had a pet. You claim to feel sorry for the dog, but obviously did nothing to prevent this from happening, though you were aware of his mental situation. I don't buy the argument that somebody who can be this heartless and violent can also be very kind. Most serial killers start off with animal cruelty. I'm sure they can be kind when they want as well. I can personally care less whether he is an immigrant or not... but anybody who can do this to an innocent creature needs to be locked up or, if here illegally, deported, because the next outburst of violence may be directed at a human being. Should we all sit back idly and wait for this to happen?

Carol, if he has mental issues then he needs to get help and not torture innocent creatures who want nothing but to be loved. If you are his relative, why didn't you intervene and take the puppy out of his care? The only disgrace here is the POS who harms an innocent being, whether it be a puppy, child, elderly person, etc. There are too many sick people in this world and the rest of us are tired of seeing the same old nutcases committing the same old heinous crimes time and again. You said he is "kind when he wants", so does that mean he is a psychotic freak show the rest of the time? Most of us are kind all the time. Oh and I work full-time at a finance firm, go to school in the evenings, spend 8 hours a week volunteering at my local animal shelter, take care of my family, and am on a committee that plans fund-raising events for abused and neglected animals so next time you call Americans lazy please think twice and keep your ignorant comments to yourself. People like you disgust me.

Are you here illegally too ? Do you pay taxes ? Does he ? Doubt it. So your whole family needs to go back to where you came from and get help there. I pay taxes to help Americans not illegals. And I don't like the fact that I have to pay for the American animal killers I sure as hell don't want to pay for non American ones, in jail or the mental hospital.

Your cousin is a piece of trash, to hurl an animal into a wall, then drug it and stuff it into a drawer, then drug it again. i want to throw up even thinking of the pain and torture this animal went through. And for you to know he has mental problems, see him own a dog and not doing anything about it, you should be feeling guilty this happened. He is trash, doesn't deserve the love of another animal or human being. send him back to wherever the hell he came from, we dont need him here in our country.

Yes, I'd want to kill him if he were my cousin. Anyone who can do this to an animal could do it to another person; they simply lack empathy. I don't want to "get even" or punish him; I just want to see him gone forever; the more humanly it's done the better. I know that not all illegals are like this; many of them work hard and only want to provide for their families. But letting them in illegally prevents the screening that would keep someone like this out. We would be better off controlling our borders and having a process for approving guest workers. Anyway, bad apples like this are born into every family, when they get to the point of causing this kind of suffering, it's time to give up on them.

His options should be to float back to Brazil in the drawer he made his dying puppy sleep in-- or get hog-tied in downtown boston with a description of what he did around his neck.
Some people are so sick and pathetic they give their whole nation a bad name. Congrats, to Douglas- I shall be firing my Brazilian housekeeper this afternoon.
