After two-terms on the Framingham School Committee, Adam Blumer said he will not seek re-election.

The town's annual election is in April.

Blumer said family is the main reason why he is not seeking a third term.

Blumer said now that his boys are in middle and high school, he wants to spend more time with them.

Blumer said the fact that his wife - Sarah Guernsey - is employed by the Framingham Public Schools did not weigh into his re-election decision, as he has been able to make it work since first elected. Guernsey is the district's student data coordinator and the K-8 math coordinator.

He said the decision was made easier with the new leadership at the Framingham Public Schools. "We are headed in a better direction," he said in a phone interview with Patch Thursday.

He said he still plan to advocate for the schools, but from a non-elected role.

There had been rumors circulating the Blumer, who works for the Wellesley Public Schools, may run for Framingham Selectmen, but he told Framingham Patch no - at least for 2013.

During his six years, Blumer said he is proud of the investments made in the school district the last couple of years, even in tough times. Specifically, he mentioned the $500,000 investment the last two years in technology for the district and the change this year to tuition-free kindergarten.

"Both help education and achievement move forward," said Blumer.

Blumer said he is also proud of the collaboration between the School Committee and the Selectmen. "We worked together." We made sure to see things as a "one-town perspective."

School Committee Chair David Miles said Blumer will be "missed. Adam is one of the best School Committee members I have ever worked with. He is very thoughtful. He gets his point across very well. He is well spoken and respected."

Miles said as a teacher and as an administrator, Blumer brought those educational views to the table. "He never lost objectivity but he was able to balance his perspective as an educator with his role as a School Committee member."

Miles said he did an outstanding job chairing the finance subcommittee for the School Committee.

Also up for re-election in 2013 is new School Committee member Heather Connolly.
