SOUND OFF: What's the Worst Speeding Spot in Framingham?

Do you think speeding is an issue in Framingham? If so, let us know where you think it's the worst.

It's the summer, and everyone is out.

While you're going about your business, it's not uncommon to see vehicles zipping up and down streets.

Speeding. Do you think it's an issue in Framingham?

We want to know if you think speeding is a big deal and, if so, where you think it's worst. Where would you love to see cops pulling over speeders, left and right?

Sound off in the comments below.

There are more important issues than speeding....
How about driving without licenses.....
Nah......we wouldn't want to touch that one.

Jim: We are not going to turn this article into a discussion about driving without a license. Patch already did an article on that recently.

If you feel the need to comment on that issue post at this link: http://framingham.patch.com/articles/fines-increased-for-driving-without-a-license-52a710cc

If you post here on that issue, I will delete!

The crazy intersection at Badger, Gates, and Salem End. Aside from speeding (generally from Salem End towards Gates), turn signal usage is abysmal.

EXACTLY what I was going to say Kim! We call it the "Intersection from Hell" since everyone thinks they have the right of way DESPITE STOP SIGNS! As I live on upper Salem End Road, I go through this intersection at LEAST four times a day and 3.999999 times out of four someone tries to do something so utterly stupid that I have asked Santa for an air horn for my Sienna!

Brenda - YES!!!! Sometimes I think people should be required to pass a written test every few years just to be sure we all remember what "right of way" is! I take that shortcut to work, so I drive through that intersection twice a day. I'd be interested to know just how many accidents happen there.

Agreed that is a dangerous intersection. That entire set up is pretty confusing. The first time I drove through there I could not tell that Salem End went to the left and those drivers had the right away. Would have earned Brenda's air horn once unintentionally.

@Donald - Nah - my scary horn is reserved only for the people who just blast through the stop sign as if it's not there.

Beaver Street in Downtown Framingham is another high-speed spot, and during the summer when there are so many kids outside playing can be very dangerous!

Warren Road. Posted limit is 25, common to see 35 or higher. Then there's the cut through off Warren onto Forest/Nelson to get to Union. Add in the constant texting...I wish a cruiser would sit and pick them off.

Concord Rd south of downtown all the way to the Ashland line, especially at night when the traffic lightens. Ashland frequently has a cruiser right over the line, but never see any on the Framingham side.

Brook St. People drive down this road way to fast. There are two schools off/on this road with kids walking.

All of Bishop Street. This road has a posted speed limit of 30mph. I have seen cars speeding well over 50mph on a daily bases.

Mark - so true! I'm a speed limit driver, and people are literally a couple of feet behind me when I drive on Bishop. Crazy!

Central Street between Copeland and Danforth Street. There have been at least three fatal accidents in the last six or seven years. A straight away between said streets.

Please let's not forget the narrow & curvy back roads of the Edmands Road area that people use as cut-through to Marlboro, where it may have been speed that killed Robert Weitzler only a few months ago.

We need to teach people what yield and stop signs mean. It's not roll and go and me first. How about Upper Joclyn where there Juniper Hill School is. Shouldn't it be a 20 mile zone since school zone. It seems like people go as fast as the can to get up the hill and stop sign is just a suggestion for most, not a stop down the hill.

The intersection that Kim P. mentioned is not for the faint of heart. I also think the intersection of Grove and Belknap -- people will go through with out stopping or if the car in front of them has stopped they will follow through the intersection. And I am sure they are all licensed drivers. They will speed down Grove, zip around the landscaping trucks -- the only thing they slow down for are the school buses.

Kellogg St is a speedway and 90% of the traffic do not stop at the stop signs at Central St and Prospect St.

Nipmuc Road and Gilbert Street are roads that drivers take to cut through to Waverly Street thus avoiding Hollis Street toward Irving Square. Speeding cars and motorcycles continuously drive beyond the unposted speed limit. There are many children that live on these streets. Nipmuc Road has NO sidewalk on the water side. Walking and crossing the street is very dangerous. The neighborhood wants posted speed signs, speed bumps, stop signs or any other means to discourage fast, cut-through traffic. Northside has many posted speed signs on off-streets. We, the Waushakum Farm Community, deserve the same.

Edmands Road. After one death and a roll over accident, one would think that people would slow down. There is currently construction on Edmands, but the speeders have just moved over to Garvey Road.

Over the past few days I've watched the cut through cars traveling very fast on Garvey. The road has been in disrepair for years and at the eastern entrance/exit to Garvey the road is wavy like a washboard (natural speed bumps). When the speeders go through that area they slow down almost to a stop. To the politicians that are studying how to address the recent accidents on Edmund's they should spend a few days on Garvey at the washboard and watch how effective they are at controlling speeders.

I grew up on the corner of Salem End rd and Stalker lane, about a quarter mile from that intersection, my parents, grandparents, aunt, me and 3 brothers never had a problem at that intersection. Things have changed since 1974 til now. So many more houses have been built. Even back in the 80's when Maycumber Farms was a real farm and people came out on weekends there wasn't any problem with traffic or speeding. Maybe some congestion when Pilgrim Day Camp Started or ended. Bager Rd has a stop sign. Salem End has the right of way. Parker road should have a stop or a yield sign not sure if does or not. And the strip of road from parker to Salem end is to get to Salem End to Parker and visa versa Bager Rd is a crazy winedy Rd. You have a dead wish if you speed down it. Not enough lights either. High beams all the way at night. It's not the intersection its the people who are driving down it.

Pleasant St. between Rt. 84 and Framingham Center. If you do the 40 mph speed limit, rest assured someone will be on your tail. Never mind going 25 MPH while in the Brophy School stretch during school hours!

All I can say is "slow down," your schedule is not important enough to hurt or kill someone, no matter the street or neighborhood.

To add to Diane Tiger's comment about Warren road, the other end is Dennison Ave,same thing, posted 25MPH. Cars are constantly all day flying up and down the street. Lots of kids live on the street. I want to install a speed bump!!! SLOW DOWN!!!!!

A four way stop sign at the intersection of Dennison, Warren & Prindville could slow them down some.

I'm also a resident of Dennison Ave. and have witnessed extreme speeders all too often. There are a couple of offenders who consistently floor it as soon as they reach the hill - it's almost predictable and I've actually learned to watch out for the sound of their cars! It's especially dangerous with all the beach traffic trying to cross over Dennison/Warren. Last summer I presented this issue to the traffic committee and they followed up with a study but apparently it's no worse than many other areas of Framingham and thus the decision was to leave it as is.

Millwood Street headed to or from Callahan State Park. It's a residential road, but it's straight as an arrow so people feel license to press the gas.

Badger Road is the worst, but more so because the speed limit (25) is NOT clearly posted anywhere. Add the police who instead of putting a precautionary sign with radar to show motorists what speed they are going, choose to put a speed trap at the end. Of course they only do this at the end of the month when they need more tickets for quota time. Totally shameless. Framingham Police should be ashamed of themselves. Writing tickets one after the other to the majority of the drivers on that road is because the signage is wrong NOT because people just want to go fast. Fix the problem instead of generating more revenue.
