TELL US: Does Charlie Brown's 'Great Pumpkin' Condone Bullying?

One parent is asking the holiday classic special be removed from the airwaves because of a bullying theme. Do you agree?

Maybe there isn't sincerity as far as the eye can see.

One parent is speaking out online against the Halloween classic program, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," claiming the animated favorite actually condones bullying in an age where such an act is taken seriously in school systems nationwide, according to a report on WCVB.com.

The TODAY Show's Moms Blog reported this week that in a recent blog post on Babble.com, blogger DadCamp wrote that the show sends the wrong message to children because of its "continuous teasing and bullying":

"The show is riddled with the kids calling each other stupid, dumb, and blockheads," DadCamp wrote. "Charlie Brown is supposed to be the hero. Instead, he is kicked and demeaned at every turn, even by the adults giving out candy."

Bishop goes on to argue the Charlie Brown specials have nothing of value to offer today’s children, save a sense of nostalgia for most parents.

What do you think?

Even if you go back to the 1st sign of Homo Sapiens ~60,000 years ago in the Great Rift Valley, we as a species have evolved and somewhat thrived despite the presence of bullies.

Looks as if if bored housewives, or in this case, a housedad, are looking for things to do. In this instance, ironically, they are trying to bully ABC into pulling Charlie Brown off the air.

Charlie Brown is more of a lovable loser. Of course, if this mentality continues, maybe the record books for MLB can be rewritten. The Red Sox didn't lose 93 games last year, they were bullied 93 times. Give those guys a trophy! The Cubs?? 104 years of being a victim of bullying! Give them a trophy!!

Peanuts and Charlie Brown's plight is a teachable moment for parents and kids. Show your kid that Charlie plays on even though he is horrible at baseball. He is surrounded by friends(albeit it somewhat snide ones).

Life is hard, and almost always not fair. Please stop teaching your children that it is. Then they end up getting some useless BA degree and wondering why they weren't installed as their company's CEO fresh out of college.

This "dad" is what's wrong with society today.

Really? This is what people are worried about? The entire "Peanuts" series is an all time classic that many of us grew up with. I still to this day make it a point to watch every Peanuts special whenever they're on. Someone clearly needs to find something better to do with their time.

Leave Charlie alone. He is a good example of being a good kid despite the challenges he faces each day in the real/cartoon world. He never wins, misses the football when Lucy pulls it away and is called names that are not politically correct. Yet he perseveres as a kind little boy, who would be a true friend. Wow, imagine that. No one telling him is the smartest/best/greatest/handsomest, get a ribbon for just showing up kid. I think we all can learn some lesson from real/cartoon life.

Good Grief is right. The bullying, actually, in Rudolph is way worse. Even the parents get in on the insults in that one.

I was going to say the exact same thing. Even as a kid I wondered why santa, of all people, was so damn mean to rudolph. The message I got from it was "if you're different, people don't like you, be ashamed. Unless you're difference can be helpful."

Whi is "Dad" not complaining about the horrible Cartoons show on the "Cartoon Network"? It's all Dark, Violent and full of harsh lanquage!

What time of day are you referring to? Remember, anything between 9pm and 5am is designated "Adult Swim", and there are constant reminders about who should and shouldn't be watching.

What "Dad" should be doing is parenting his own kids.

All these replies are great. Now, because we don't agree with that dad are we being bullies? I don't think so. You can't raise children to think they live in a rose colored world because it just isn't that way.
Instead of trying to get ABC to pull Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin from the air he should be snubbing them for not allowing their people to wear a flag pin or anything patriotic.

Wow. People are nutty. The Great Pumpkin and all of the Peanuts specials have an overall good feel to them - despite being laughed at, Linus still sticks to his guns to wait in the pumpkin patch. And year after year, Charlie Brown still has hope that he'll get candy in his bag! LOL. Really, we have bigger things to worry about.

OMG! Has it really come to this? Shut off your own tv and stop trying to shut off everyone elses!
