Margaret (Hammond) Walenski

Long-time Framingham resident Margaret (Hammond) Walenski, a captain in the U.S. Army in World War II was recently awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur medal by France at a ceremony in Westborough.

It is the highest award given by the country of France.

She was a nurse during World War II.

She served from 1943 to 1946 in Europe and at the former Cushing Hospital in Framingham, which is now Cushing Memorial Park.
