VIDEO: Shoppers World Lights Up Framingham Again
Framingham Selectman Chair Charlie Sisitsky helped light up the the newest exhibit at the Framingham History Center: Shoppers World 1951-1994 Friday night.
More than 200 people attended the preview opening of Framingham History Center's newest exhibit Shoppers World 1951-1994. Friday night at Edgell Memorial Library.
The highlight of the event was when Framingham Selectman Chair Charlie Sisitsky helped light up the old neon sign that stood high above Shoppers World.
The sign had been stored in the basement of the History Center, since 1999; but for this special exhibit Malden's Dave Waller, a special effects specialist, and Natick's Jeff Crosby, an electrician, helped restore the sign for Friday night's festivities.
The public grand opening of the exhibit is today from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for non-members and free for members and children.
The Framingham History Center is offering a special $19.51 membership to commemorate the exhibit.
The exhibit will be on display through Labor Day and open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

As a newer Framingham resident, it is nice to see the video of the old Shoppers World that I have heard about! Looking forward to seeing the exhibit! Thanks for posting.

Think about this... the classeness of the Old Shoppers World. And the strip maul that replaced it, a terrible thought. But developers want to tear down and put in it's place anything to turn a profit. They have no concern for the community or it historical icons that should be preserved and protected. :(
(Sad what lies they tell the planning board and the board believes them)
