Waltham Woman Cited For Striking Child, 4, in Crosswalk

The 4-year-old boy was hit by a minivan and thrown about 10 feet on Friday at 7:20 p.m.

Friday night, a Waltham woman driving a minivan struck a boy, walking in the crosswalk with his mother on Hollis St., near Amazing Things Arts Center, according to Framingham Police.

Police mailed a citation to Gertrude Velez, 59, of 131 Charles St., Waltham, for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, said Framingham Police Lt. Ron Brandolini.

The 4-year-old boy was hit by a minivan and thrown approximately 10 feet, said Framingham Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Burns.

“He was conscious and alert and appeared to have non-life threatening injuries," the deputy fire chief told Framingham Patch Friday night.

The boy was transported by an ambulance to Children's Hospital in Boston. His condition is not known at this time.
