Check out the latest musical comedy, "Olympus on my Mind"this weekend. The theatre company is so professional and only $22

Amazing Things Arts Center! When our community choir, Voices of MetroWest, a non-profit 501c3 organization, was looking for a place to perform beyond our home-base church space in Natick, TCAN was not interested, and yet Amazing Things Arts Center welcomed us into their Sunday "emerging artists" program. We've sold out 2 shows there to date, and intend to do so again this December! Ticket sales enable us to offer charitable performances in our community, such as the one we just held as part of Relay for Life at the Natick High School. Thanks for your support, Amazing Things!

Personally, a competition between arts centers seems somewhat perverse. I'm grateful for all of them, but the one that's impacted me the most is Amazing Things..., an incredibly strong and growing community with a huge number if volunteers, so many great live shows and community theatre productions, a visionary leader who deserves tremendous credit for both TCAN & AT, an inviting space with excellent sound and lighting (also video recording), and a much better seating arrangement in my opinion. Amazing Things is truly Amazing!

Have been to both TCAN and AT. LOVE that we have both as options (how spoiled!) but have to say that AT wins for openness, welcome, and friendliness. Just my two cents I haven't been to the Amazing Things yet. But I have been to TCAN some years back and I liked it. But here is the problem. TCAN has a Downtown that provides the whole downtown experience of parking, night life, restaurants, the new Camella's Italian eatery, a real homey downtown. The Amazing Things seems to have great entertainment but that hell hole side of town turns me off. No places to go to eat unless you speak another language but English.

So in other words nothing backs up the entertainment through a downtown experience such as Natick. The Amazing things is a Rose amongst thorns in a bad area neighborhood. But then again, the whole downtown Framingham is a hell hole for a night life. It needs to be "bulldozed", the Illegal's need to be thrown out and a new life has to happen there. The Amsden Building has four windows BOARDED up on the upper floors, as of yesterday. This is in the middle of Downtown!!! It is a disgrace.

Just thinking of Downtown Framingham depresses me. Why doesn't Amazing Things get into the Train Station, have a nice coffee and dessert eatery in it and you'd be a hit.
Make the Building now your in a jail for homeland Security and ICE to put the Illegal aliens in it. The Jail will make Millions, Framingham gets its taxes, and Amazing Things will be out of that dump area.

I have been to ALL these venues with the exception of Holliston and Hopkinton. I consider Amazing Thing AC's location to be FANTASTIC. Downtown Framingham has TONS of eateries, and the variety of foods---this is in addition to the tremenous variety of arts offerings [musical and other] at ATAC--is a real PLUS. The "Killer Brownies" at ATAC alone are worth the trip---and if you've not tried the pupusas at Rincon Latina just up the road from ATAC, shame on you.

Amazing Things has meant so much to me since 2007 when they asked me to feature. It was the first time I'd performed live in a club in 20 years and their constant encouragement, friendship and support changed my life in too many ways to note here. Suffice to say that AT puts the C back in Community and they always feature great music and a great environment in which to experience it. Michael Moran may be the "brains" behind the joint, but he's also one of those 'heart-of-gold' guys that just makes you love the place all the more. I live just around the corner from Amazing Things. Telling new businesses that come in that they really should go elsewhere is counterproductive. Either you want a new, vibrant downtown or you don't. THE most appealing feature of anyplace is its "heart" - the way it draws you in, the way it subtly allows you to become a part of it, the way it carries over to others and transforms a community. I'm sad to see comments which devalue people and location. Sad to see the narrow-mindedness in some of these posts which state that an art center like Amazing Things Art Center in Framingham is thought to be unworthy to attend because of where it "lives" - and let me tell you, people - it LIVES!- instead of seeing the awesome potential to stand in a place where a richness of diversity can be cultivated for the community in which the building happens to sit. Amazing Things is a true Art Center. It offers an eclectic mix of many genres of music, drama, musicals, comedy, spoken word and children's programs. Many of the well-known artisst that come to perform in an evening also hold classes during that afternoon for those interested in honing their own skills. It has a wonderful art gallery upstairs that must be visited. Michael Moran is a creative visionary with a commitment to and a heart for the community. I look forward to many years of watching Amazing Things help to transform its community by welcoming the diversity that surrounds its beautiful frame to step inside and share its heart. I invite you to do the same.

My wife and I have known both venues for many years. We began going to TCAN in 1998 or so, we've been involved at AT since early on. We love both venues, and they have developed two different levels of focus and different types of musical and performance diversity. Michael Moran at AT started both venues, most of us know that, but his vision for eclectic and diversity of programming for music, theater and visual arts has flourished at Amazing Things. David Lavalley and his team have done a great job at raising the bar and bringing in touring national musical acts. If that's your taste you go to TCAN. As many of you know, my wife and I volunteered at TCAN for many years.

Amazing Things has continued to encourage, develop and present both unusual musical programming, as well as new artists from musical and visual perspectives. The two venues have developed very different missions, and this is a good thing. Both have a place in MetroWest and to the comments about Amazing Thing's location I'll offer - it's perfect for their mission of creating community. Amazing Things can be a catalyst for development in Framingham so it got my vote.

Wow I'm glad I subscribed to Amazing Things- I am from WMass, western- never been to any (either) of these venues (never heard of the others and learned today that these 2 are related) but if I lived closer I would definately be involved/ attend, perform and volunteer at Amazing things, possibly at TCAN or the others too. It's super-great to see such interest in and support for the arts, as that is what I have been looking into lately. What I can offer is that I can tell from the web and comments that Amazing things reaches out a lot and is super-diverse and welcoming- to me that's very important for performers of all types, audiences, volunteers and the community. Of course, location matters but to work with it, stay so busy and diverse, and flourish is very commendable. I agree with comments that all have a place in the community and there should really be no contest... but it's good for me to have this feedback. Keep up all the great arts and I hope a really positive general response comes with the 'voting' results!

I think they have done an "Amazing" thing with Amazing Things, just a bad neighborhood. Probably one of the worse neighborhoods in the town.
We suggested that it go where the dollar store is downtown but they wanted the fire station. If it was more centered downtown I think it would be more like TCAN and have a better after hours scene.
On the plus scene for it, it's only going to be as good as the support it gets and if the support is there then that's what counts.
I would of done things different but it is what it is, and we can't turn back the hands of time.

Anybody remember the day long Bowditch Field celebration with Arlo Guthrie et al.? Now there was a community event which I'm sure required a lot of planning and coordination. And five bucks for town residents? It was . . . Amazing!

Amazing Things Arts Center supports an impressive number of musical genres and visual arts. Michael Moran has been an unstoppable force for the arts in Metro-West for years, beginning with building TCAN from the ground up, then taking on ATAC. They're the best!!

Don't kid your self... TCAN is where its at! They book the bests acts around. Both local and from all around the country! They have the most devoted ensemble of staff and the coziest theater to watch live entertainment. Sorry Framingham :P
btw... TCAN was an old fire house... I think that last post is a bit of an exaggeration lol

My vote's for TCAN...a variety of high-quality performances, classes and opportunities, and a gratifying venue for community events as well. And it's right in my own town! Natick's very fortunate.

I'm with Joe Fredette on this one. Support your performing arts centers, Period. That being said, I began going to the Amazing Things open mic. in Febuary and got to restart my nearly stagnant gift for creating music thanks to them. I'm starting to branch out to the other venues but ATAC and all the people involved there are the reason I got back into it all.

I vote for Amazing Things. I love their jazz concerts and jazz jam sessions. They have wonderful events, concerts and others, on weekends. At an affordable price, which is important to me.

I love Amazing Things. The jazz jam sessions give a chance to non-professionals to jam with the best. The concerts are great.

TCAN is my favorite place to go for a show. The building has been beautifully renovated, the sight lines are great from every angle, the sound is fantastic, and there is plenty of room to comfortably move around off to the sides when you don't feel like sitting still. And they get great acts there, local and national.

Amazing Things Arts Center is a gem in our community. We have enjoyed all sorts of musical groups from folk to rock to great comedians and the theater productions have been great. It is really nice to view various artist's works during intermissions too. J.Todd

As a long time member of Amazing Things Arts Center I love the convenience of having such great and varied live entertainment in Framingham, for such an affordable price. Just about every day of the week there is someone performing and there are four wonderful plays or musicals during the year.

There is no "best" here. If you like open mikes, jazz jams and local artists, support Amazing Things. If you like incredible national touring acts and kids programs in a professional setting, support TCAN. If you like all this stuff, support them both.

At least in the Patch cheeseburger poll, we were all voting on cheeseburgers!

TCAN provides real quality - the restored firehouse ambiance, the sound system, the variety of performances, the great people (most of whom are volunteers) who make it all work, and of course, the performers themselves. Overall, a great experience.

Someone please tell me after a great night at Amazing Things WHERE they go out to eat within a few blocks of the area?

The downtown is basically dead after 9pm.
Unless you're interested in sub shops with questionable workers behind the counters for a quick ICE visit I will Ask for where these gems of eateries are. Please remember I never said the entertainment was a problem at AT. All I did was make an observation of, location, location, location. Natick beats Framingham hands down.

My heart is with Amazing Things, a true community experience, and a wide a wildly eclectic range of entertainment possibilities. Also, I love Michael the man, with all his foibles and his creative spirit, and I can feel him reaching out to the Framingham community. I was there recently for a show and I went across the street to a little hole in the wall and got Chicken, Rice, Beans, and plantains for cheap! However, I'm with brother Joe Fredette that this whole business of competing online seems kinda silly.

TCAN is a unique and charming venue offering a diversity of talent including home-grown, "Rock Off Main" to nationally recognized acts, not to mention well recognized theatrical performances and childrens programs. My friends, family and neighbors have all enjoyed having this great performance space right in our own back yard!

We have been members of TCAN and Amazing Things from the beginning of both...when TCAN was in a little storefront on Main St! They are both AMAZING because of Michael Moran's dreams and visions.Over the years we have seen fabulous performances at both venues. We are so fortunate to have two such wonderful art centers in Metrowest, where we don't have to fight traffic to get there, pay absorbitant prices for parking and we can enjoy such wonderful quality and diversity of entertainment at such reasonable prices. And as far as the Rizoli brothers, it is sad that they are so blinded by their one minded obsessive, negative and divisive attitudes that they are unable to appreciate the culture and art in our own backyard. We go to Amazing Things all the time and have never had a problem with "the neighborhood". Having dinner after a performance would be difficult in any area, since the shows end well after 10pm. However, Il Forno or La Cantina are great choices for dinner before a performance and they are just a short drive down the street!! The Rizolis should try going to ATAC sometime...maybe if they did something nice for themselves, they would stop being so nasty!!!

Amazing Things is a wonderful place to hear top-notch music and comedy, but I value it even more for building community. Michael Moran does a fabulous job of supporting performers of all ages and levels, and bringing people together, and Dan Cloutier and Dave Hornfischer create a warm and welcoming atmosphere at the open mics.

TCAN has spoiled me. Always reliable at providing top quality artists, whether emerging or established. I've been introduced to so may new talents that I never would have been exposed to. The patrons really come to LISTEN, and the artists respond by upping their game. Start the evening with a wonderful meal from any one of several great restaurants, all within easy walking distance. Just fabulous!!

Did the Rizoli brothers say anything bad about the entertainment at Amazing? Did they talk down the fine people that go there or play there for entertainment?
Now let's read English since English seems to be foriegn for the Amazing Things area. I asked SHOW me a eating place to go to a few blocks from the Amazing Things? There is none unless you have a good comprehension of Spanish and Portuguese and even Russian.

Now, show me the restaurants withn hundreds of FEET near the TCAN? Case closed. La Cantina and Ill Forno are not blocks from the Amazing Things. I have lived in this town 60 years. You Johnny come latelys need to come back to planet earth.
You people from the north side of town wouldn't stay walking 50 feet away from the Amazing Things, I wouldn't
I cherish my life too much. Oh by the way the can recycle center is open right down the street, you can also wave to the police cameras at the Sunoco Gas Station.

Come on, Joe - I live around the corner, cherish my life as much as you do, and yet I walk to Tango's when I want a pizza, walk to the new Colombian restaurant, walk to Amazing Things, and walk to the gas station across the street from it. It's not the best part of town, but don't overexaggerate and say that you're going to get killed if you walk around there. I've been there for eleven years, and nothing's happened to me!

There are few places as dear to my heart as The Amazing Things Arts Center. It truly is a place that builds community, advances talent, and supports local art. I would not be the musician I am without the people I have met at Amazing Things. I love all the other venues too, but AT is just special.

Barb.....Where did I say the AA was bad? My only problem with it is where it is.
It would do much better in another location. We have an advantage over a lot of you because we know the neighborhood very well and know it's past history.
Sorry you take that a a "negative" and "Divisive" attitude. I don't write the news.
Like I said.....even though the location stinks the people and what is inside can make it work.
To be honest with you I refuse to even get gas at the station across the street, I don't feel safe there. But the police have their cameras watching the area so hopefully that will make you feel more secure, at least you will see who the people that are causing any problems there. If you ask me where I would feel more secure.....TCAN.

I support ANY organization that makes an honest effort to present the arts.

I have volunteered at a number of arts organizations over the years. None of those organizations ever saw it as a competition. The more any venue attracts people to the arts, the better all of them do.

I have to take public transportation to get to events in MetroWest, so some of the venues mentioned are outside my reach. (And none particularly convenient, given the unhelpful schedule of the trains.) But I'd recommend you check out performances at any and all of the venues you can get to. You might find artists who make a difference to YOU at any of them. I think more good would be served by an article describing the strengths and specialties of each, rather than trying to play one against another.

I have been to the Amazing Things Arts Center and The Center for the Arts in Natick. Both are excellent venues. The differences are much less significant than the similarities. The area would be the poorer for it if either one were absent, and I have enjoyed every visit to either one of them.

I'd be happiest leaving it at that, but if I have to respond to this vote I will just say that in recent years I believe I have been to Amazing Things a bit more often than TCAN, and for more different types of events.

Please, just go out to take in the arts, live, wherever you can, and as often as you can. You won't be sorry!

TCAN is the greatest place to see a show. My husband and I are major fans of all kinds of music and we love the variety. The ticket prices are very reasonable. We go to maybe 15-20 shows a year. We have been members for a long time. It is so nice to see a show in an intimate setting. I also like the fact that most of the time the artists will come out after the show and talk to us and also sign autographs. The TCAN volunteers could not be more helpful. TCAN, hope yo will be around for many more years, because we certainlly need to keep the arts alive like you do

TCAN's real growth came AFTER Mr. Moran was fired eight years ago. What a joke it is for Moran and his followers to try taking credit for TCAN and its success! It's that egocentric style that turns me off on amazing things. He does seem to appeal to some though, so help yourself to another cup of that Kool-Aid AT fans! Just be sure to lock your cars.

Go TCAN!

Kim.....Sorry say...I don't feel safe in that area. Call me what you want, I won't go there. Haven't been to that gas station in years.
To be fair....you don't have a target on your back like we do, so you learn to stay away from areas that could be problematic.
I'm sure you can walk around there with no issues, and many others can too.
I am very aware of my surroundings when I go out no matter where I go. If I wasn't that way I would be a fool.
Don't take it personal.

Kim do people give you the finger when they drive by you at the train station area? Like Jim has said everytime we go downtown somebody recognizes us to either give us a high five or the middle finger salute. We really have to watch ourselves downtown, so I guess what I am saying is when we want a pizza at Tangos we'll call you to pick up the order.
