Will Students Lose April Vacation? When Is the Last Day of School?

You Ask, Patch Answers.

The last of school - as of now - is Wednesday, June 26.

"We are still within the number of allotted snow days. We have two days before we hit the end of June," said Framingham Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott Tuesday night to the Framingham School Committee.

"I predict there will be no more snow days," said Scott jokingly. He then added he was certain there would be no more than 2 additional snow days.

School was cancelled Tuesday, as Framingham received 8.4 inches of snow. Today is the first day of spring, but weather forecasters are predicting snowflakes Thursday and colder than normal temperatures for the rest of the week.

Framingham has had a total of six snow days.

The Framingham School Committee voted last spring, that it might eliminate April vacation days, if Framingham went past the 185th day of school with snow days.

The wording at the bottom of the distributed 2012-13 school calendar states "should the district exceed 5 snow days before April Vacation, this week may be used for make-up days." (The calendar is attached to this report.)

Scott said Tuesday night, unless Framingham has more than 2 additional snow days, he did not see eliminating April vacation or going to Saturdays to complete the state-mandated 180 days of school.

Seniors are not required to complete 180 days and will graduate on June 2.

With the last day of school set at June 26, Framingham will not be the last school district in session. Boston, at the moment, is scheduled to go through June 28.
