Framingham Hockey honors Bobby Brown for his 50-year involvement. He has been a volunteer coach for all levels of Framingham Youth hockey, Framingham South High School and Framingham High School. He has served as a varsity assistant, a junior varsity head coach, and one night last February against Medford was the varsity head coach. He was honored at the start of the Flyers vs Braintree hockey game Saturday night. Hundreds of toys were collected from generous Framingham Baseball families and other Framingham residents last week at O'Connell's Pub for Framingham Baseball's 9th Annual Toys for Tots Party. A special thanks to the MetroWest Republicans for the generous cash donation, said organizer Janet Leombruno. Framingham Firefighter Tom Falone and Sharon Gilbert with Timothy's Toy Box will finish delivering the toys to needy kids in Framingham today, Dec. 24, just in time for Christmas.

Long-time Framingham resident Margaret (Hammond) Walenski, a captain in the U.S. Army in World War II was recently awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur medal by France at a ceremony in Westborough. It is the highest award given by the country of France. She was a nurse during World War II. She served from 1943 to 1946 in Europe and at the former Cushing Hospital in Framingham, which is now Cushing Memorial Park.

Class of 2012 Keefe Regional Technical School graduate Daniel De Oliveira of Framingham was honored with a special award ceremony, where he received his national SkillsUSA bronze medal in welding sculpture at Keefe Tech last month. SkillsUSA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing high school and college students for careers in technical, trade, and skilled service occupations through local, state, and national programs and competitions. This past Sunday morning at Dunning Elementary School the playgrounds were very busy. You may think that means that there were lots of kids playing on the equipment, running around the blacktop, and riding bikes. Well, not so much this time.   A group of families, led by PTO mom Stephanie Ngom, were fully engaged in spreading 180 cubic yards of playground wood carpet (better known as mulch), so that the playgrounds would be ready in time for school's opening on Aug. 29. HomeGoods was one of the two recipients of the 2012 Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Award, the Jimmy Fund’s highest honor. Framingham-based HomeGoods was honored for its more than 10 years of support the company has given to the Jimmy Fund, which supports adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Framingham Baseball travel Lou Tompkins U13 team shutout Arlington in the last game of the regular season. Lefty Alex Leombruno pitched 5 scoreless innings, and lefty reliever Chris Grome came in and closed the game, together allowing just 3 hits in 7 innings. John Baker provided stellar defense to keep help keep Arlington off the board. Brady Bykowski, George Tremblay and Alex Leombruno had multiple hits for Framingham. Framingham has advanced to the Tournament of Champions and will play Newton on Tuesday, Aug. 7.
Wednesday night, it down poured. To get the baseball game in, a group of 14 year old baseball players had to clean up the field for an hour, before they could play. With a repertoire from Berlioz to the Beatles, Trio Andante performed at the main Framingham Library on Wednesday. Members of the group include flutist/saxophonist Ed Harlow, guitarist John Mason and vocalist/cellist Ellen Cogen. They performed jazz to classical to pop music. The 14U AAU Framingham Rebels went up against AAU teams that draw their top players from multiple towns at last weekend’s Dan Duquette Summer Heat tournament in Hinsdale. The Rebels, an AAU travel team formed in 2011 consisting of players exclusively from Framingham, emerged champions after going 5-0 against competition from NY and MA. Key pitching by Franky Damata, Sammy Phipps, AJ Tunno, Nick Cronin, Zach MacGregor and Nick Benoit fronted the strong defense of Jamie Brigham, Christian Seariac, Nate Duda, Griffin McGann and Evan Hermanson. The Tour de Natick -Ride for Natick Scholars, an annual bike ride that starts and ends on the Natick Common, was held Sunday. Produced by the Natick Rotary Club and sponsored by local businesses, the event raises money for scholarships and other support for Natick students. By Amaris Pena BLOCKS Preschool celebrated its Annual Fun Day, earlier this month, with lots of fun activities for  students and the staff.  This event, partly sponsored by BLOCKS PTO, included a petting zoo with goats, chickens, rabbits and alpacas; a huge inflatable slide and bouncy house; an obstacle course; sports such as soccer and golf; a planting station where the kids planted flowers and vegetables to take home; facepainting and tattoos; and yummy popcorn and sno-cones!  We also had a visit from a Framingham firetruck, where the kids were able to explore the truck.  More than 30 …
