5 Things You Need To Know Today: Tax Day & 1-Year Anniversary of Boston Marathon Bombings

Governor has asked flags to be at half-staff across the state and everyone is asked to participate in a moment of silence at 2:49 p.m. today to mark the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings.


1. Today is the deadline to file your income tax with the federal government and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Framingham Post Office on Route 30 will be open until midnight, to accommodate last-minute filers. If you are sending original receipts, the U.S. Post office registered mail. 

2. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, 2013, that killed four and injured hundreds more.

There will be a tribute in Boston beginning at noon, that the Boston Athletic Association announced plans for in February. Vice President Joe Biden is expected to join Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, Governor Deval Patrick and former Boston Mayor Tom Menino for the ceremony.

The tribute will conclude with a flag-raising ceremony and a moment of silence at 2:49 p.m. The Governor has ordered the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset today, April 15, in honor of the individuals who lost their lives and were injured during the Boston Marathon bombings.
3. Due to Passover, neither the Framingham Board of Selectmen nor the Framingham School Committee are meeting tonight. Both, however are scheduled to meet Wednesday night. Selectmen at 7 in the Memorial Building and School Committee across town at 7:30 in the King Administration Building.

4. Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker will make his second trip to Framingham in less than a week. He will attend a private luncheon at the Connolly Acura dealership today. 

Last Friday, Baker met with the director of the Framingham-based Voices Against Violence.

5. Boston Celtic Vito Faverani, who was born in Brazil, will be in Framingham today to participate in a radio interview with Leandro Alves at 3 p.m. Fans can call to talk to their basketball hero at 508-820-8399.
