5 Things You Need To Know Today April 10

Latinas and education lecture, Paul Revere's Ride discussion, Girl Scout night at Margarita's, summer recreation center registration and autism event all featured in today's column.

1. April is National Autism Awareness Month. Today at 10 a.m. The Massachusetts Chapter of Talking About Curing Autism (TACA) will hold a discussion at Whole Foods Market in Framingham at 10 a.m.

Talk About Curing Autism is a national non-profit  organization dedicated to educating, empowering and supporting families affected by autism. For families who have just received the autism diagnosis, TACA aims to speed up the cycle time from the autism diagnosis to effective treatments. TACA helps to strengthen the autism community by connecting families and the professionals who can help them, allowing them to share stories and information to help improve the quality of life for people with autism.  To learn more, go to www.tacanow.org 

2. Join Jennifer DeLeon, editor of the groundbreaking creative nonfiction anthology Wise Latinas: Writers on Higher Education for a special reading today at 4:30 p.m. at the Heiman Ecumenical and Cultural Center on the campus of Framingham State University today. The public is invited to the free event.

De Leon will be joined by contributors Celeste Mendoza and Yalitza Ferreras as they share their narratives and provide crucial inside into the complex intersection of race, class and identity in higher education, dispelling myths and showcasing the diversity of one community's experiences.

3. Tonight from 4 to 10 p.m., it is Framingham Girl Scout night at Margarita's in Framingham.

Bring a copy of the flyer attached to this report or mention Framingham Girl Scouts, and the non-profit organization, with more than 400 Scouts in Framingham, will get 15 percent of your bill to be used to offer scholarships to Scouts who can't afford activities and for the organization to lower the cost of events to make them affordable to all.

4.  Gary Hylander presents “Paul Revere’s Ride”  at the main Framingham Library at 7 p.m. The free lecture is part of the Lifelong Learning Lecture Series, a collaboration between the Framingham Public Library and Framingham State University.

5. Today Framingham Park and Recreation Department will hold registration for its Summer Recreation Centers at The Academy Building in Cushing Memorial Park for Framingham residents only from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

​Important, there has been a change in center locations to Wilson Elementary School and Walsh Middle School. ​The center will operate Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. for three, two-week sessions beginning July 7. 

Activities for ages 5-13 will include bowling, laser tag, roller-skating, arts and crafts, sports and special events. ​ ​Due to the popularity of this program, registration is on a first come first serve basis. Residents may register their family and one other family. A non-refundable fee of $240 per session is due at ​ ​registration.
