5 Things You Need To Know Today: April 17

Framingham Public School parents, today is the last day of school until Monday, April 28. Framingham Public Library will be closed today from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. but will then re-open until 9 p.m.

 
1. Both of Framingham's Public Libraries will be closed today from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for staff training and a software update for the system. The libraries will re-open at 2 and stay open until 9 p.m.

2. Tonight at 7 at the main Framingham Library, learn about Framingham’s role in the development of Metropolitan Boston with Dr. Jim O’Connell, an author and community planner for the National Park Service.

The free presentation places particular emphasis on the influential role of Framingham and surrounding communities on latter 20th Century suburbs. The presentation is part of the library's lifelong learning series, jointly presented by Framingham State University and the Framingham Public Library.

3. On Wednesday, Congresswoman Katherine Clark, who represents Framingham, met with Genzyme CEO David Meeker and senior leaders at Genzyme’s Science Center and Biologic Support Center in Framingham, where treatments are developed and manufactured for patients with rare diseases. 

4. This afternoon, Clark will be the featured speaker at the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce's Exec-Connect Luncheon  at the Verve Crowne Plaza located on Route 9. She will update the MetroWest region on the legislative efforts being undertaken at the federal level to spur economic development in Massachusetts. In addition, Massachusetts' Secretary of Housing and Economic Development, Greg Bialecki will provide an update regarding the State’s Economic Development Plan – Choosing to Compete.

Luncheon starts at noon. Cost ffor the event, including lunch at the door is $35. 

5. There is a new member Town Meeting member orientation tonight at 7 in the Blumer Room in the Memorial Building, hosted by the moderator.

The session will provide an overview of Town Meeting introduce some Town Meeting customs and procedures briefly explain what various committees and officials do at Town Meeting.

BONUS: Parents: Today is the last day of school until Monday, April 28. Public Schools in Framingham are closed tomorrow, on Good Friday, and next week is April Vacation.
