5 Things You Need To Know Today: April 18

Featured in today's column is Good Friday, School Vacation, the opening of the Disney nature film Bears, the Boston Bruins start their road to the Stanley Cup and Framingham Parks & Rec summer camp sessions.

1. Today is Good Friday in the Christian and Catholic faiths. Many churches are offering a special service or Mass.
 
2. Schools are closed today in Framingham, and will not return until Monday, April 28, due to spring vacation week.

3. The road to the Stanley Cup kicks off tonight for the Boston Bruins. The Presidents Trophy winners  will host the Detroit Red Wings in Game 1 of their first round series tonight at 7:30.

Nobscot's Cafe will offer 50 cent wings and $1 drafts during Bruins playoff games.

FYI: Game 2 is 3 p.m. at the Garden on Easter Sunday.

4. Due to the popularity of its Summer Rec Center programs, Framingham Parks & Rec is offering an additional location at Barbieri School on Dudley Road. The program consists of three sessions lasting two weeks per session. The cost is $240/per child/per session. Session hours 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Session I: Monday-Friday July 7-July 18, 2014
  • Session II: Monday-Friday July 21-August 1, 2014
  • Session III: Monday-Friday August 4-August 15, 2014

5. Disney's Bears opens in theaters today. In the opening scene of Disneynature's latest wildlife documentary Bears, two newborn brown bear cubs follow their mother out of their den and, along with the viewer, witness the majestic Alaskan landscape for the first time.
