5 Things You Need To Know Today: April 30

The lifelong friendship between Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Julia Ward Howe ​will be brought to life by Libby Franck and Rob Vilella in a new re-enactment​ tonight, April 30 at 7 in the Costin Room at the main Framingham Library.

1. Framingham Town Meeting began Tuesday night.

Night 2, is scheduled to begin tonight, April 30 at 7:30 in Nevins Hall inside the Memorial Building or when a quorum is reached. Town Meeting is expected to start with Article 8 tonight.

2. Framingham Girl Scouts helped open the start of the 2014 Town Meeting with a color guard comprised of Helen and Marie Scanlon, Amanda Lampl and Suzanne Sarkar. ​

4. ​Framingham State University's MetroWest Economic Research Center (MERC) will hold its 22nd Annual Conference ​today at the Framingham Sheraton Hotel.​ ​

This year's theme - The Massachusetts Innovation Economy: Maintaining MetroWest’s Competitiveness.

Students and faculty from MERC will present the latest town and regional data and analyses on: unemployment, jobs, wages, payroll, housing permits, sales and prices, cost of living, municipal revenue and taxes, and K12 public school enrollment, including Massachusetts and U.S. comparisons.

5. ​The Women's Fun Federation, the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce and the Performing Arts Center of MetroWest have all teamed up for a fun event at the arts center tonight. All Framingham (and MetroWest) women are invited to attend the free event, but pre-registration is required. 

Come network, sip wine, sample appetizers and enjoy a special night out at the theater on April 30 from 5:30 to 7:30. Students enrolled in the Performing Arts Center of MetroWest will perform a skit from its upcoming Shrek show. Afterwards, attendees will participate in some  lively theater games.
