5 Things You Need To Know Today: July 22

It will be a battle of the undefeated swim teams and a committee to start a 4th of July celebration are both happening tonight.

1.  Tonight is the battle of the undefeated swim teams. The Framingham Frogs will travel to Newton for a 6 p.m. meet.

Both teams are undefeated this season and the two teams typically finish first or second in the league the past 12 years.

Over the last 8 years Newton's record is 84 - 4 and Framingham's is 84 - 4, according to Framingham Frogs head coach Shawn O'Leary. 

In the last eight years, Framingham is 4-4 against Newton, with Framingham winning the first four meets and Newton winning the last four meets.

2.  Town Meeting member Stephen Marshall wants to see Framingham do more on the Fourth of July. He would love to see the town have fireworks again, maybe do a parade or host a community event.

Tonight, he is hosting an Independence Day 2015 planning committee meeting at the Memorial Building in the second floor conference room at 7.

3.   Looking for something for your child to do? Framingham Parks & Recreation off ers free drop-in supervised play time at Mary Dennison playground from 9 a.m. to noon and at Danforth Park from 1 to 4 p.m. for children ages 5-13.

4.  Framingham Selectmen are scheduled to meet tonight at in the Ablondi Room inside the Memorial Building. On the agenda is a vote on a lease for new Framingham Public School administration offices and votes on recommendations by the Framingham Traffic & Roadway Safety Committee.

5.  Plan Ahead: Both Stapleton Elementary and Brophy Elementary will have new afterschool care providers in the 2014-15 school year. 

There is a meeting Wednesday, July 23 at Stapleton to meet the new provider and a meeting on Thursday, July 24 at Brophy to meet the new provider.
