5 Things You Need To Know Today: July 24

Framingham Farmers Market, outdoor summer games, Framingham Frogs host Natick, comics discussion and afterschool care meeting for Brophy parents all featured in today's column.

1. The first tomatoes of the season will be found at the Framingham Farmers Market today.

The market is open today from noon to 5:30 p.m. Besides tomatoes, attendees will find fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese, yogurt, bread and ice cream from Eastleigh Farms.

Verizon will be there passing out a limited number of “veggie dollars”. 

Framingham Public Library will be at market from  1 to 3 p.m. Friends of Framingham Public Library will be selling gently used books. Framingham Public Library can also sign you up for a library card.

There will be a free kids craft at the Kiddie Academy tent.

2. Weather permitting, the Framingham History Center and the Appalachian Mountain Club's Outdoor RX program will offer summer outdoor games on the Framingham Centre Common from 2 to 3 p.m. 

3.  After a decade, the MetroWest YMCA's contract for afterschool care at Brophy Elementary School  was not renewed.

Tonight, working Brophy parents, who need afterschool care between 3 and 6 p.m., can meet with the new provider at a meeting at Brophy from 5:30 to 6:30.

4.  The undefeated Framingham Frogs will host Natick for a swim meet at the Keefe Tech's pool at 6 p.m. The Framingham Parks & Recreation co-ed swim team is 6-0, half way through its season. 

5.  Yesterday, Batman turned 75.

Tonight, at Barnes and Noble booksellers in Shoppers World in Framingham authors Dan Mazur, co-founder of the Boston Comics Roundtable, and Alexander Danner, President of The Writer's Room of Boston, will discuss their newly released book: Comics: A Global History, 1968-the Present.
