5 Things You Need To Know Today: June 12

Framingham Farmers Market open today, meet Stapleton Principal finalists tonight, human trafficking forum, AMA says cheerleading a sport and Frog Nation fundraiser at Sweet Spot all featured in today column.

1. Framingham's Farmers Market will be open today from noon to 5:30 p.m. on the Framingham Centre Common. Parking available in Village Hall lot and behind the Framingham History Center museum.

In addition to a great line-up of bread, fresh produce, fish, meats, cheese, etc. Framingham Board of Health Medical Reserves Corp. will be there offering a free blood pressure clinic.

3. Reports of human trafficking have increased in the United States 259 percent between 2008 and 2012, according to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center and its Polaris Project. The three most common forms of sex trafficking reported to a hotline involved pimp-controlled prostitution, commercial-front brothels, and escort services. The most frequented reports of human labor trafficking was domestic work, restaurants, peddling rings, and sales crews.

Tonight, there is a public forum exploring this issue titled Human Trafficking: A Journey Down a Dead End Street from 7 to in the Blumer Room inside the Memorial Building.

4. Frog Nation, the Framingham Parks & Recreation summer swim team, is holding a fundraiser at Sweet Spot Frozen Yogurt today from 3 to 10 p.m. Mention that you are there to support the Framingham Swim Team and Sweet Spot will donate a portion of their proceeds from these sales directly to the team.
