5 Things You Need To Know Today: May 23

Busy night: Framingham High senior prom, Marian High graduation, kickoff to the 33rd Annual Memorial Day Soocer Tournament, Robin Zander band at Violet Jam and teen band Centre Street at Amazing Things Arts Center.

Welcome to the official kick-off of summer - Memorial Day Weekend.

1. Tonight is graduation night for the Class of 2014 at Marian High School in Framingham Ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the school, with 86 students scheduled to receive diplomas.

The Valedictorian is Marta Pysak of Framingham. Salutatorian is Marlborough’s Nick Seymour.

2. Tonight is prom night for the Framingham High Class of 2014. The senior prom is at the Fairmont Copley in Boston starting at 6 p.m.

3. Tonight is the kick-off to the Framingham United Soccer Club's 33rd Annual Memorial Day Soccer Tournament. There is a doubleheader soccer game at Bowditch Field to kick off the weekend of soccer games. At 6 p.m. The girls U14 Framingham Fury will host the Natick Hurricanes and at 7:30 p.m. the boys U14 Framingham Rebels will battle the Natick Titans.

4. Robin Zander, lead singer of the 70s and 80s band Cheap Trick will bring his rock n’ roll energy to The VERVE: Crowne Plaza Natick for a Violet Jam performance featuring his newly-formed RobinZander Band tonight at 9 . Their set will include highlights from Zander's solo material and of course, a few Cheap Trick favorites, including Dream Police, Surrender, and the song featured in several movie soundtracks, I Want You to Want Me.

The Violet Jam doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets will be sold at the door at $25 each.

5. Sam Baler and Centre Street will perform at Amazing Things Arts Center tonight at 8. Centre Street is a teenage band that plays jazz-infused rock music. We go for genuine, fun, and enjoyable music with a mix of recognizable covers and originals in many styles. Cara Wehmhoefer is opening for the band. Tickets are $15, $14 for students & seniors, $12 for members and $8 for children age 12 and under.
