5 Things You Need To Know Today: May 7

Today, May 7 is the deadline for municipal and school employees, as well as retirees and survivors, to sign up with the Town of Framingham's new health insurance.

1. Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Shoppers World in Framingham will host a book signing tonight at 7 with Illustrators of the Future contest winner Michael Talbot.

Writers and Illustrators of the Future Volume 30 features stories by Mike Resnick, Orson Scott Card and L.Ron Hubbard in addition to 12 never-before-published authors. 

Talbot will be in Framingham from 7 to 9 p.m.

2. Today, May 7 is the deadline for municipal and school employees, as well as retirees and survivors, to sign up with the Town of Framingham's new health insurance.

3​.  Framingham Town Meeting continues tonight.  Last night, Framingham Town Meeting members approved a $2.4 million dollar plan to begin automated trash collection and approved a total $14.8 million capital improvement municipal and school budget.

Town Meeting Night 5, is scheduled to begin at 7:30 in Nevins Hall inside the Memorial Building or when a quorum is reached. Town Meeting is expected to continue discussion on water and sewer construction projects.


​4.​ Framingham Superintendent of Schools plans to establish a Framingham High School Search Committee comprised of staff, students, community members and school administrators, with the departure of Framingham High Principal Michael Welch.

The committee is to be announced next week. If interested in serving on the committee individual should email Human Resources Director Paula Ceglowski at pceglowski@framingham.k12.ma.us.

​5.​ In Case You Missed It: In tribute to the victims and families affected by the Boston Marathon bombings, Hair Cuttery salons throughout New England, including the Framingham Route 9 location, held a fundraiser to benefit The One Fund Boston

From April 14-21, Hair Cuttery donated a portion of the proceeds from all haircuts purchased to The One Fund Boston and was able to raise more than $5,000. Click here to read more.
