Ashland Chief Finalist Has Ties to Framingham, Advocates CEO Loses Battle With Cancer

1. Framingham Deputy Police Chief Craig Davis is one of two finalists to become the new police chief in the Town of Ashland. The other finalists is New York City Police Lt. Richard Rudolph. Public interviews are scheduled for after Labor Day.  In April, Ashland Police Chief Scott Rohmer was put on paid administrative leave. Ashland's Town Manager plans to appoint a new chief in early September.

Davis and Rudolph were both finalists for the Braintree Police Chief job, losing out to an internal candidate and Davis was a finalist for the Natick Police Chief position a couple of years ago. He has been with the Framingham Police Department since the mid-1980s and was promoted to Deputy Police Chief in 2001.

2. Mutual One Charitable Foundation, for the 10th consecutive year, awarded $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest. Click here for more details about the donation.

3. The Wellesley Theatre Project (WTP)  will stage two performances of RENT, THE MUSICAL (School Edition) this weekend. This Pulitzer Prize and Tony winning drama is loosely based on Puccini’s La Boheme. It follows the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. 4.  Mitch and the E Brother's Band will perform at Nobscot's Cafe at 9 tonight.

5. Advocates, Inc. CEO Bill Taylor died Thursday. The Franklin resident had been battling cancer.
