Chuck-a-Puck to Fight Cancer, Rumi Celebration and Science Foundation Taps Professor for Board

The 99 Restaurant in Framingham will donate 15 percent of food sales from 5 to 10 p.m. today, Jan. 8 to the Park family fund, set up the Pheasant Hill Civic Association to help a Framingham family that lost their home in a fire.

1. At tonight's Framingham High vs Needham High hockey game do not be surprised to see more pink and purple and less Flyer blue and white.

Through its partnership with the Coaches vs. Cancer program, Flyers Hockey has chosen to dedicate today's game to benefit the American Cancer
Society. Puck drops at 7 p.m. at Loring Arena in Framingham. 

Fans are encouraged to wear pink and purple to the game and all the players will wear purple to honor loved ones touched by cancer.

All proceeds from its Chuck-a-Puck will be donated to the American Cancer Society in order to assist in their goal of creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

2. MassBay Community College Professor of Computer Science Susanne Steiger-Escobar has been selected by Harvard University to join the Advisory Board for a National Science Foundation funded project designed to evaluate computer science education at the high school level, for females in particular.  The project, entitled Factors Influencing College Success in Information Technology (FICSIT), is being conducted at the Department of Science Education at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Click here to read more on our sister Patch site in Wellesley. Mass Bay Community College has a campus in Framingham.

3. The 99 Restaurant in Framingham will donate 15 percent of food sales from 5 to 10 p.m. today, Jan. 8 to the Park family fund, set up the Pheasant Hill Civic Association to help this Framingham family rebuild their lives, after a fire destroyed their home in November.  Guests must notify their server that they would like the 15% donated to the Park Fund, if they dine tonight at the Framingham eatery. Dine in and take out sales do apply. Menu available at:www.99restaurants.com 

4. First Parish in Framingham will celebrate Rumi, an ancient Sufi poet tonight. The church's Wellspring Wednesday dinner at 6 ($7 per person), will be followed by music and poetry. The church will show a 60-minute documentary film about the life of Rumi after dinner and the music and poetry. Held in the Parish House, there is no charge to just attend the program and not the dinner. The meal includes meat casserole, vegetarian lasagne, vegan casserole, broccoli dip, beet salad, roasted vegetables, fruit salad and almond crescent cookies. To attend please pre-register at www.signupgenius.org
