$1 Red Sox Tickets, Coakley Campaigns in Framingham and Violence Prevention Workshop

MetroWest Chamber of Commerce is holding a "progressive" Business After Hours tonight at Genzyme and Bose in Framingham.

1. Framingham High's Athletic Department, in conjunction with Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society, is holding a violence prevention workshop at Framingham High tonight from 6:30 to 7 in the school's gym. Current and future high school athletes are encouraged to attend the Mentors in Violence Prevention which "motivates student-athletes and student leaders to play a central role in solving problems that historically have been considered women’s issues, including rape and sexual harassment."
The program motivates men and women to work together in preventing men’s violence against women. The program views "student athletes and student leaders not as potential perpetrators or victims, but as empowered bystanders who can confront abusive peers.”

2. A day after announcing her candidacy for Massachusetts Governor, Attorney General Martha Coakley was campaigning in Framingham. Coakley made stops in a half dozen communities her first day of campaigning - Newton, Framingham, Worcester, Springfield, Pittsfield and her childhood town of North Adams. Coakley stopped at J&M Diner just after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

“I want to be a governor who makes sure everyone has an opportunity to succeed as our economy comes back.  And that's going to take an even stronger commitment to education," Coakley said in a video released Monday on www.marthacoakley.com.

“In Massachusetts, we have the best universities and hospitals in the world,” Coakley continued.  “Some of the most innovative companies, incredible beauty from the Berkshires to the Cape, but what we really have are the strongest, the toughest, the most resilient people in this nation. These folks are the reason I’m running for Governor.  They need someone who will fight for them.  Someone who will take their side.  I’ve done that as Attorney General.  And I’ll do it as Governor.”

3. The owner of the Mt. Wayte Shopping Plaza is almost ready to submit plans to the Framingham Planning Board to redevelop the almost-empty plaza, at the corner of Mt. Wayte and Franklin streets in Framingham. Tonight at 7 in the Memorial Building, there is a meeting for the community to have input and discussion on the proposed project.
